**Position Description**:
The **Interprofessional Education Specialist** (IES) is a leadership role focused on advancing paediatric practice through the provision of interprofessional education which influences clinical, professional and leadership development. You will have direct accountability to the Senior Manager, Interprofessional Education and the Associate Chief of Nursing & Interprofessional Education.

As part of its commitment to improving quality of care, SickKids has embarked on an exciting Mental Health Strategy which will help achieve excellent outcomes in child and youth mental health through collaborations, innovations and partnerships. The **Brain and Mental Health Program** is inclusive of programs and services focused on **neuroscience**, **mental health conditions**, **inter-professional practice** and a commitment to **system capacity building** through innovative partnerships with hospital and community organizations. The Mental Health Strategy aims to transform mental health care delivery; accelerate mental health research; achieve mental health literacy for all; prioritize child, youth, and family needs; and champion the evolution of the mental health system.

In this role, you will be leading the re-design of the Mental Health Literacy curriculum for SickKids Nurses, interprofessional staff, Residents, and Managers. The curriculum will include a set of 3-4 modules with the following learning objectives:

- Describe how mental health is part of every patient and family experience.
- Recognize and respond to normative emotions and behaviors (e.g. anxiety, sadness) in patients and their families.
- Identify when a mental health issue requires additional assessment and care pathways.

You will also collaborate on the development of the Measurement Based Care education toolkit and co-deliver the education programming for the pilot implementation. Curriculum will be delivered in the following formats - eLearning platform, videos, and animations, webinars, in - person training sessions.

**Here’s What You Will Get to Do**
- You will be accountable for developing, implementing and evaluating education programs and activities that support the goals of the Mental Health Strategy.
- A unique feature of this role is that you will initially be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a competency based innovative education initiative to improve mental health services across the organization.
- Your education approach should be evidence based using innovative education delivery methods.
- You will work collaboratively with other Education Specialists, Clinical Managers, and interprofessional colleagues in creating a healthy and safe environment for patients, their families, and staff.

**Essential Requirements**
- Master’s level degree in a Health Care Profession, Adult Education, or related field (or evidence of working towards).
- Strong clinical expertise and theoretical knowledge in mental health as well as a good working knowledge of professional standards for this area.
- Minimum of **five years** recent related experience in mental health clinical work.
- Strong knowledge in the planning, development or programming and care of patients in a Designated Mental Health (Schedule 1) facility.
- Demonstrated theoretical and practical experience in adult education, including curriculum development and program planning and evaluation are essential; preferably with developing programs that reinforce the fundamentals of excellence in practice.
- Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a team.
Strong leadership abilities, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; appreciation for the importance of relationship building as a foundation for learning.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced acute care environment.
