**Parent Program Coordinator (PPC) - Sharon Van Cleave Child Care Centre and Royal West Early Learning Centre**
Start Date: August 26, 2024
Job Length: 37.5 hours per week - annual work schedule coincides with SPSD school calendar year
Wage/Salary: $18.65 - $25.65/ hr.
**Summary**:
Sharon Van Cleave Child Care Centre (SVC) and Royal West Early Learning Centre (RWELC) are two of three of Saskatoon Student Child Care Services’, child care centres. SVC is a 22 space child care program that is focused on providing child care to children of young parents attending various programs at Mount Royal Collegiate as well as other community members. They provide care for children aged 0-30 months. RWELC is mainly a community centre but holds five spaces for young Mount Royal students. These spaces are held for children aged 30 months-6 years. A young parent program is offered out of SVC. This program provides support to young parents as they complete their high school education, focus on potential post-secondary education, and pursue employment goals.
**Role and Responsibilities**:
- Support young parents through mentorship, partnership, relationship, guidance, coaching, direct instruction, counsel, referral, liaison, advocacy etc.
- Coordination of individual and group programming/ services to support families’ in meeting their unique needs. Ex. help families access nutritious food, housing, healthcare, income support, transportation and other essentials
- Work in partnership with Mount Royal Collegiate school counsellors, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to provide the support needed for young parents to achieve their academic, career, and personal goals
- Collaborative partnership with members of the SSCCS Leadership Team as well and other professionals within the community
- Advocate for young parents and help teach skills for them to advocate for themselves
- Work with young parents to provide the support needed to help them develop their skill and confidence as a parent, student, peer, community member etc.
**Requirements**:
- Minimum of a diploma in youth care or a related field.
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current Driver’s License
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification, Level C
- Membership in professional organization
- Recent relevant experience in similar/related position preferred
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills are a must; ability to establish rapport and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities
- Must have knowledge of adolescent and child development
- Should be familiar with trauma and its effects and complexity of issues facing young parents today
- Must be approachable, non-judgmental, flexible, self-directed, organized, culturally sensitive and work well with others
- Experience and sensitivity in working with youth, young families, crises of all kinds
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy
- Leadership skills
