The **Gardens at HCP** is a public garden and place of learning in Saanich. The HCP (Horticulture Centre of the Pacific) is a not-for-profit society focused on the provision of horticulture education and the development and maintenance of 103 acres of educational gardens and conservation lands.

This key leadership position is responsible for the growth of Continuing Education at HCP. He/she works in sync with HCP staff to ensure all programs are complementary to HCP’s horticulture education goals and fit into the ongoing event schedules of the gardens and college.

**ABOUT THE JOB...**

The Community Education Coordinator should be a high-energy professional who is proactive and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically. Ideally, this position within a Non-profit will wear many different hats and have experience in the different facets critical in NPO’s: finance, event management, administration, and operations. A Community Education Coordinator is not an hour-counter but works the hours necessary to hit their goal. This role will be under the direct supervision of the General Manager.

**Job responsibilities include**:

- Identification of the community’s and the HCP members’ needs for horticulture related community education programs courses and programs, including the identification of relevant trends in horticulture and course delivery;
- Create/modify courses and programs and activities to meet the ever-changing needs of individual learners, HCP, and the community;
- Review course/program/instructor evaluations with the instructor and utilize the data to plan, modify or cancel programs;
- Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, orientation and performance management of instructors;
- Develop program area budget to meet targets/operating margins as established with the General Manager;
- Establish individual course budgets where required;
- Work with General Manager to resolve budget issues and discrepancies;
- Utilize financial information to plan, modify or cancel courses or programs;
- Develop marketing plans for the programs and communicate with the Marketing Manager and the Operations Manager to ensure consistency;
- Prepare course descriptions and write-ups and post to website and online booking system;
- Represent Continuing Education on internal and external committees/organizations;
- Promote Continuing Education activities through building external relationships, utilizing community resources and working with the HCP staff and volunteer team;
- Resolve those customer complaints/inquiries which cannot be dealt with by front line staff;
- You will play one of the pivotal roles in the planning and execution of our main fundraising festival.

**Experience**
- Demonstrated experience in relationship building and conflict resolution
- Experience in the design and/or teaching of community education courses
- Communications and media relations

**Additional Responsibilities**
- Assisting at the front desk as necessary.

**Performance Criteria**: The performance criteria shall include factors related to the tasks set out in the position description, and annual major objectives. Work output will be measured in outcomes and positive results, not hours spent.

Performance outcomes will be based upon:

- Positive feedback from participants, instructors and staff
- Community Education programs increased as a result increasing profit margin
- Creative fresh and timely programs completed successfully
