Library Supervisor (12 month contract)

Location : Industrial Ecopark at Salaberry-de-Valleyfield (100% On-Site)

Work schedule: The Work schedule may involve working during the evenings and on the weekends.

Start date : July 3, 2023

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate Director, ensure the efficient and effective operations of the Collections Centre. Organize, support, guide and monitor the progress and performance of all staff involved in the ingestion of 2.88M of library material in the Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS). Develops procedures and makes recommendations to improve unit efficiency. Acts as a resource person, resolves problems, instructs others and provides troubleshooting and technical advice. Participates in collection maintenance and the development and implementation of projects. Preforms other administrative and operational functions in support of the Library’s mission.

The person will work in the specialized library environment of the McGill University Collections Centre (MUCC) equipped with an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). The Collections Centre is located off campus, in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. The incumbent will directly supervise a large team.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise a large team of 20 Shipping and Receiving Clerks, and Sr. Library Clerks, and the daily operations at the Collections Centre. Supervise staff and the daily operations at the Collections Centre. Schedule and assign workload and evaluate progress of assignments; follow up and deliberate with Associate Director regarding the results and daily priorities. Note and follow up on absences, address staff issues immediately, reassign priorities to ensure optimal service delivery. Regularly confer with Associate Director in order to re-develop plans or workflows and co-ordinate service and administrative needs.-
- Participate in the recruitment of staff. Prepare interview questions and evaluate performance, including Mid-Review and End-of-Probation Reports.- Train staff on specialized software and equipment, when required.- Ensure staff are informed of changes and updates by preparing documentation detailing new procedures, policies and/or services.- Regularly confers with Associate Director of the Collections Centre to plan and oversee service and administrative needs.- Ensure staff compliance with health and safety regulations. Ensure safe working conditions for staff, when appropriate, advise Associate Director and develop solutions for improvement.- Represent the unit at internal and external meetings or committees.- Oversees maintenance of building and operating manuals. Troubleshoots operational problems. Acts as a resource person, resolves problems and instructs others as required. Reports issues with the ASRS as appropriate.- Prepares ASRS maintenance reports and logs. Compiles data, analyses and discusses results and their interpretation with others. Determines action to resolve problems. Maintains records and files.- Oversees timely and accurate services including storing and auditing of items.- Oversee Collections Centre stacks operations, e.g., shelving, relocating parts of the collection, searching for missing books. Report issues with equipment as appropriate.- Liaise with other University units and external organizations.

- Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- Undergraduate degree or higher (desired).Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines. Ability to coordinate workflows. Ability to perform effectively under pressure and with professionalism. Self-motivated with the ability to work with mínimal supervision. Good analytical skills and sound judgment. Demonstrated knowledge of Integrated Library Systems. Demonstrated ability to work with office productivity software. Demonstrated knowledge of Storage Retrieval desired. Proven experience to communicate effectively in English and French, spoken and written. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.Minimum Education and Experience:
