About the role

The Shipping & Warehouse Supervisor directs the daily operations of the shipping and warehouse sections and contributes to ALS Environmental Burnaby’s overall operation.
- Supervises and leads all Team Leads and staff within the section;
- Leads sectional meetings;
- Supervises and develops the systems and processes used in the operation of the section;
- Allocates personnel and resources to maximize section production, quality and efficiency;
- Organizes workloads to meet operational requirements, department turnaround time goals and client turnaround times;
- Engages in development of systems or personnel training to ensure timely delivery of outputs;
- Engages in continual planning and identification of needs;
- Assists with budget activities and cost control and maintains costs within guidelines;
- Establishes effective communication with employees and actively provides appropriate information to maintain engagement;
- Works with other supervisors to ensure effective resource sharing in all aspects including labour, knowledge and cross-training;
- Supervises the technical aspects of the sections and provides decision making & oversight;
- Develops and implements plans for sectional improvements;
- Becomes familiar with all section equipment, methods, regulations and policies;
- Provides support to Account Managers and clients and responds to technical inquiries.
- Actively supports the quality program mandates; including training, completing routine checks, participating in audits, resolving quality issues in a timely manner and ensuring that analytical records and quality documentation is maintained;
- Ensures the quality of all work produced meets or exceeds company and market standards;
- Effectively manages human resources within the department including recruiting, performance management, training, attendance, career development and staff scheduling/timekeeping as they relate to the operations;
- Ensures adherence to all employment procedures and policies;
- Promotes and sustains a strong health and safety culture in the section;
- Promotes and enforces safety procedures and policies, and conducts safety investigations;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring quality requirements are met;
- Observes established safety regulations and complies with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Responsible for various facility related support and tasks as required, under the direction of the Facility Manager and/or Operations Manager;
- Other duties as assigned.

About you
- Detail-oriented and strong organization skills;
- Proven time management and prioritization skills;
- Demonstrated judgement, creativity, integrity and ability to problem solve;
- Strong safety approach;
- Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and confident with computers;
- A strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks;
- A commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.

Required Qualifications
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required;
- Minimum of 1 year leadership experience preferred;
- Previous experience working in a shipping or warehouse environment preferred;
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Previous forklift experience would be an asset;
- General facility maintenance & repair skills would be an asset.

Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs/23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
- Extensive walking or movement, bending, and kneeling for a full shift;
- Ability to use lift assist equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks;
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
