**Job description**:
Our Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS) officers are the eyes and ears of Canada’s waterways. They ensure mariners’ safety 24/7 in one of our 12 MCTS centres across Canada, from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL, to Victoria, BC.

To become an MCTS officer, we offer fully paid training at the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The 6-month training program is offered in English and French and is followed by 4 to 12 months on-the-job training in one of our 12 MCTS centres across Canada.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Listening for and answering distress and safety calls from mariners on the water
- Monitoring and coordinating marine traffic to prevent accidents
- Broadcasting safety information to vessels in Canadian waters, like weather and navigational warnings
- Preventing the entry of defective or deficient vessels into Canadian waters
- Ensuring compliance with Canadian maritime policies and regulations

**Education, Experience and Skills**:

- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Secondary school diploma or a combination of education, training, and experience
- Skills in memory, coding, spatial reasoning, and more
- Able to type at least 30 words-per-minute with 95% accuracy
- Works well in a team
- Organized and flexible
- Enjoys quick decision making
