Infrastructure Planning plays an important role in the planning, design and implementation of physical space for departments, centres and institutes within the Faculty. We provide leadership and assistance on a broad range of infrastructure and planning projects and liaise with a variety of university groups that have a role in planning and construction. Infrastructure Planning ensures coordination between the various groups and success of overall project objectives.

Your Opportunity:
The Faculty of Arts & Science (FAS) occupies over 50 buildings across the University of Toronto’s downtown campus. Buildings include a variety of spaces such as laboratories

(including biological, chemical, laser, dry labs etc.); offices; teaching and student spaces. This position is responsible for providing leadership and expertise in space planning, facilities management, project development and management to support the Faculty of Arts and Science’s academic mission and operations.

This position reports to the Director, Infrastructure Planning in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of capital project planning, high-level, strategic space planning, and facilities space planning for various Faculty projects. In addition, the incumbent plays a key role in the implementation of capital projects, conducts research related to physical planning for Faculty facilities, liaises with internal and external consultants and partners, and provides specialized guidance to other staff within the unit.

This position manages building operations, maintenance and services, including liaising with the various University Central services (property management, utilities, caretaking, grounds, Campus Safety and other trades) to ensure the safe and healthy environment, and identifying and resolving space and facilities related issues and problems.

The incumbent is responsible for working with the Director, Infrastructure Planning to develop and implement comprehensive management policies with respect to facilities and space utilization. In collaboration with academic and administrative leaders within the Faculty, the incumbent is a key contributor to office, teaching and student space planning for the Faculty including strategic planning to optimize space utilization, capital project planning and implementation both on the St. George campus.

This position manages a number of administrative staff, and assumes overall responsibility for human resources, labour relations and financial management including dispute resolution and compliance with collective agreements. The incumbent directly manages the direct report staff and the quality and efficiency of work, ensuring the structure and duties are meeting operational objectives in the most effective manner. The manager also leads the development of emergency strategies and/or contingency plans in the event of a crisis involving building operations.

EDUCATION:
University degree in Interior Design; must be Registered Interior Designer.

EXPERIENCE:

- Must have a minimum of ten years’ progressively responsible related experience, preferably in a large research university or equivalent setting. Thorough understanding and extensive knowledge of interior design, construction, building systems and practices. Effective budget planning, preparation, monitoring and reporting experience. A proven track record of effective human resources management and development.
- Minimum ten years of experience in statistical and facilities analysis and/or institutional facilities planning in the design and construction industry.
- Must have experience in providing complex services.
