The Opportunity
- Reporting to the Director, Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines Law, this professional will support our commercial law team for our Canadian natural gas business. You will have the opportunity to learn from seasoned legal professionals as TC Energy expands its footprint across North America and designs fit for purpose energy solutions for a decarbonizing energy industry.

Our Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines legal team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver in Calgary to support the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements and provide other commercial legal support to TC Energy’s Canada Gas business unit.

We are seeking a dynamic Legal Counsel who has knowledge and experience in corporate commercial transactions, pipeline transportation, energy commodities or other solicitor-side work and a willingness to learn. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity to work with a variety of industry-standard and bespoke legal agreements, identify legal risks and adapt to changing business unit priorities in the pipeline transportation business as well as emerging specialties in the energy transition space.

What you’ll do- Develop expertise in a wide variety of commercial agreements relating to the Canadian natural gas pipeline industry-
- Operate in both non-regulated and regulated commercial settings-
- Provide internal legal support and advice to the Canada Gas organization, as well as various internal business departments-
- Work independently and in support of senior legal practitioners with drafting and review of agreements for major infrastructure projects, business development, M&A, corporate administration, governance, and major commercial transactions as well as for the day to day commercial operations of our pipeline business-
- Professionally and effectively communicate with internal clients and the Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines Law leadership team in a timely manner regarding commercial matters-
- Effectively manage external counsel where required.Minimum Qualifications- Minimum 4+ years’ experience in solicitor-side legal practice-
- LL.B, J.D. or equivalent from a recognized University-
- Active member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta or equivalent Canadian law societyPreferred Qualifications- Familiarity with the pipeline transportation business-
- Familiarity with both federal and provincial regulatory framework- Have current, valid authorization to work in Canada-
- Be part of an on-call rotation as Legal representative in Corporate Emergency Operations Centre and provide emergency support as required-
- Successfully complete pre-employment Bankruptcy, Credit, Civil and Criminal background checksTo remain competitive, support our high-performance culture and allow for more flexibility in the way we work, we offer a hybrid work model and flexible dress code for our eligible office-based workforce in Canada.
