We are seeking an HR Generalist (Mediation and Traditional Healing) to join our team.
Under the direction of the HR Manager, the HR Generalist integrates traditional practices, peacemaking, and cultural humility into HR functions, people management practices and processes. The Generalist will also facilitate employee growth through career path development.

**WHAT YOU'LL DO**
**Resolution and Peacemaking**:
- Facilitate Peacemaking Circles to mediate conflicts, disputes, performance management, and grievances within the workplace, promoting dignity, harmony, consensus-building, and understanding.
- Provide guidance and support in dispute resolution processes, ensuring fairness and respect for all parties involved.
- Address employee concerns and grievances promptly and effectively.
- Assist employees in resolving conflicts using traditional and culturally appropriate methods.
**Medicals, Accommodations, and Returns to Work**:
- Coordinate leaves, medicals, functional abilities, accommodations, and return-to-work processes for employees with health concerns or disabilities.
- In collaboration with management and the employee, develop and implement return-to-work plan that are respectful and inclusive of all parties.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements and organizational policies regarding health and accommodation.
**Career Development and Training**:
- Support employees in their professional growth and career advancement within the organization through facilitating career development planning and processes.
- Identify training needs, organize and facilitate workshops and training sessions.
**Human Resources**:
- Support the day-to-day operations of Human Resources functions and processes, ensuring a positive employee experience.
- Provide frontline support and guidance to employees and management, delegating inquiries to team members.
- Facilitate various HR functions and processes as assigned, including but not limited to participating in projects, coordinating events, compiling reports, overseeing surveys and collection of employee feedback and information.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee records.
- Assist with employee exit and dismissal processes, ensuring dignity and respect.
- Collaborate with Health and Safety, Payroll, IT, management, and other stakeholders.
**HR Policy Development and Compliance**:
- Assist in the creation of policies and procedures that reflect First Nations and community values and practices.
- Stay up to date and comply with changes in labour legislation.
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation, regulations, and organizational policies.
**Research and Policy**
- Reviews new legislation to ensure company alignment, in collaboration with Policy Analyst and Policy Writer.
- Overseeing the Human Resources Policy Manual, Human Resources guides, and other related documents to ensure they are always current and meet the needs and culture of Seabird Island, and current employment legislation.
- Ensuring Human Resource policies and procedures are implemented, followed, and reported on as required.
**Other Duties**
- Ensure the security of information entrusted to Human Resources including information and documents contained in paper and electronic files.
- Foster a positive work environment through open communication and mutual respect.
- Promote a culture of inclusivity, respect, and community within the organization.
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
**WHAT YOU BRING**
**Qualifications**
- At least 5 years of relevant experience working within First Nations communities, focusing on peacemaking circles, mediation circles or traditional dispute resolution.
- Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is an asset. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
**Cultural Competency**:
- Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.
- Understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and communities.
**Preferred**
- Lived experience as a member of a First Nations community.
