Reporting to the Dean of the School of Advanced Technology (SAT), the Associate Chair - Student Affairs is responsible for providing a range of management functions in support of the Chairs of the Academic Departments within SAT. The priority of duties will be to support large numbers of students in the Information Communications Technology, Applications and Programming (ICT-AP) department. However, the incumbent will be called to support the other SAT academic departments according to the urgency of the situation as determined by the Dean.

For the focus areas (as defined by the Dean), the Associate Chair will support the Chair(s) by meeting students, investigating student complaints, overseeing grade review processes, reviewing academic appeals to avoid hearings, where possible, and monitoring academic dishonesty cases in order to research, analyze, recommend plans of action, and follow up with the Chair(s) of the relevant departments on solutions and implementing actions. The incumbent analyzes the results of these processes, reports significant or concerning issues to the Chair(s), and proposes action plans to resolve the concerns. In collaboration with the Student Progression Advisors and the Student Success Specialist, the Associate Chair is responsible for the planning, development, delivery, tracking, and follow-up of any activities that relate to the student experience. In addition, the incumbent also actively participates in the Program Council, tracking and following up on action items under their span of control.

At the school level (SAT), the Associate Chair reviews the departmental academic processes related to students with a critical view from a student perspective. They discuss their findings with the Dean and the Chairs to develop an action plan to improve the student experience.

The SAT Associate Chair is also responsible for supervising and managing the SAT Student Specialist(s) and their activities. While the SAT Associate Chair will give priority to supporting the Chair of the ICT-AP academic department, the Student Success Specialist(s) supports all the students within the SAT. In cooperation with the SAT Student Success Specialist(s), the incumbent manages, oversees and facilitates SAT's student retention initiatives, course feedback survey process, student orientation and program council actions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- For the focus department: Develop and maintain the student's relationship to help the Chair(s) manage the interaction load of meeting with the students and resolving issues;- Provide Academic Leadership as it relates to the student's experience of the School of Advanced Technology (SAT);- Participates in continuous improvement of the student experience;- Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum four (4) Year Degree;- A technology, engineering or science background or experience would be an asset;- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in an educational facility related to a post-secondary setting with increasingly responsible roles, preferably in a college setting;- Experience meeting, listening and talking one-on-one with people;- Experience dealing with difficult situations;- Experience working in a consultative role with middle management;- Effective communication, negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills;- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education from a student perspective;- Ability to respond quickly to rapidly evolving situations dealing with multiple stakeholders;- Good time management and organizational skills;- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools;- Experience teaching in a post-secondary institution would be an asset;- Experience dealing with post-secondary student situations would be an asset;- Experience working in a post-secondary educational institution and preferably within a large, unionized environment is considered an asset.
