Reporting to the Food Services Manager (FSM), the Food Services Supervisor(FSS) is accountable for the overall cooperative supervision of the dietary department at the Meighen Health Centre. Through effective joint supervision/management of all resources in the dietary envelope and development of a strong dietary team, the FSS will ensure the delivery of optimal resident, staff and guest service based on legislative requirements and The Salvation Army Meighen Health Centre’s standards.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Completes clinical review and documentation of resident nutritional needs and in cooperation with Registered Dietician
- Assists with planning and monitoring of the overall Food Service activities of the Meighen Health Centre facility.
- In the absence of the FSM fulfills the role of Nutrition Manager for Meighen Health Centre, as required by the regulations under the Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Participates in the onboarding and training of new employees, in coordination with FSM ensures current staff complement completes required annual training
- Assists FSM to develop, implement and communicate policies, procedures and guidelines to employees in support of MHC’s mission, vision and values and in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements, the Ministry of Health and professional standards of practice.
- Assists FSM with development of menus, meal plans, and all supporting documentation including production sheets, recipes, ordering templates and service manuals in consultation with the Registered Dietitian to meet nutritional analysis requirements and special needs of the residents.
- Responds to residents’ requests for specific food items, responds to complaints, follows up and documents as necessary when care plans require revision.
- Assists FSM to develop, implement and monitor benchmarks, provides support to FSM for development of reporting including statistical analysis
- Identifies and implements best practices, challenge resolution, CQI and partners with cross-functional department staff
- Assists with the purchasing or supplies and equipment and ensures inventory control
- Provides or delegates the provision of in-service training for dietary and facility staff
- Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety, sanitation, environment and infection control
- Performs food handling, serving and cooking duties when required
- Acts as back-up and attends required team care conferences in the absence of the Registered Dietician

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- This is an in-person permanent full time position based upon 60 hours biweekly
- Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities
- some weekend and evening work may be required
- Flexibility to be available outside of regular work hours to provide support on urgent matters or to meet tight deadlines

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- College Diploma in Food and Nutrition Management or is a Registered Dietitian
- Active membership and certification/license from the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management and/or Ontario College of Dietitians
- WHMIS training
- Current First Aid and CPR training
- Experience with Occupational Health and Safety (Certification preferred)
- Current Food Handlers Certification
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

**EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**:

- Culinary training would be an asset
- Current knowledge of issues and trends including best practices in the enhancement of quality of life
- Experience with Point Click Care would be an asset
