**Position**:
The Accounting Assistant supports the Director of Finance & Support Services and other senior accounting staff in the preparation of reporting financial statements in accordance with the mission and vision of L’Arche, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), government regulations, principles and guidelines as determined by the Executive Director and/or the Board of Directors.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Process accounts payable and receivable
- Prepare and transmit documentation to bank authorizing the transfer funds
- Review and process semi-monthly payroll journal entries
- Review all cheques and cash for deposit
- Assist with preparation of financial statements; reconcile banks, general ledger and inter-company accounts
- Liaise with Human Resources regarding group benefits and the accounting of same; liaise with House Leaders regarding bank account administration and reconciliations; liaise with Foundation personnel regarding donations; liaise with all staff, as required
- Assist with budget, variance, month-end and year-end audit schedule development: monitor cash availability
- Assist with monthly and year-end financial reporting for L’Arche Greater Vancouver and the L’Arche Foundation of Greater Vancouver
- Track and, when appropriate, invoice project costs
- Assist with statutory filings
- Participate in special projects as required and directed by the Director of Finance & Support Services and/or other senior level accounting staff.

**Skills Demonstrated**:

- Enrolled in or has the intent to enroll in Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) program
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Customer oriented (internal & external);positive co-operative attitude
- Willing to learn and take direction
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Ability to handle pressure with grace
- Computer skills: MS Office; Sage and donor software experience an asset

**HOURS OF WORK**:Preferably between Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $20.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 - 24 per week
