**SUMMARY OF ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**

Providence Living is a newly created non-profit Catholic-sponsored health care organization focused on long-term care, assisted living, housing, and other community services to support seniors and their family members. We are committed to re-imagining the experience of seniors, especially those living with dementia, and to creating communities and fostering a culture where seniors are empowered to make decisions that affect their quality of life.

Within the context of a person-centered model of care and, in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and strategic directions of Providence Living, a Catholic-sponsored, faith-based, health care organization focused on long-term care, assisted living, housing and other community services to support seniors, their family members, and caregivers, Director of Care, promotes a safe, respectful, and civil environment for our seniors, their families, visitors, and for staff.

Reporting to the Senior Operations Leader, the Director is accountable for guiding and coordinating program implementation and clinical advancement for the Central City Lodge and Cooper Place, using a best practice and evidence-based approach. The position advances the programs and practice by providing expert support and clinical leadership in planning, developing, mentoring and evaluating the provision of quality-focused residential services. The Director develops structures and processes necessary to improve service delivery and health outcomes for Residential Services. The Director works directly with the Residential Care Team Members, with Support Services and Directors and with external stakeholders to ensure coordination of services and processes and optimization of resource allocation. The responsibilities of the Director encompasses: resident-focused care, communications, team work, quality improvement, program planning, education and research, policy development, professional standards, fiscal and materials monitoring and human resource management.

**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Guides the ongoing development of resident-centered services at Central City Lodge and Cooper Place:
a. Collaborating with colleagues and other partners in formulating a care philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, systems and standards; ensuring communication, interpretation and implementation by staff.

b. Directing the operations of residential services at Central City Lodge and Cooper Place and assisting the Senior Operations Leader in linking with Island Health Program Directors for this service.

c. Recommending changes in overall structure, policy and operations.

d. Incorporating trends in advancing clinical services into recommendations for change and improvement; and

e. Considering resource requirements and budget needs while working with staff to maximize efficient and effective use of resources.

2. Develops, implements and evaluates residential and transitional care services objectives by:
a. Assessing and monitoring standards of care.

b. Assessing the number, level and mix of resources required to carry out assigned services,

c. Leading the development of the units strategic and operating plans.

d. Planning for and organizing the efficient utilization of the human, financial, materiel and equipment resources available.

e. Developing consistent policies and standards for residential care services.

f. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate clinical programs considering resident needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.

g. Understanding available resources for the units and keeping quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions; providing feedback and detailed analysis on budget variances, and making recommendations for corrective action.

h. Fostering collaborative working relationships to support the professional practice and ongoing development of staff.

i. Promoting development of clinical research opportunities to ensure evidence-based practice within a multidisciplinary team-based environment.

3. Directs the following activities by:
a. Overseeing the hiring and supporting the development of those in reporting relationships, providing clear definitions of responsibilities and levels of authority.

b. Facilitating, collaborating and negotiating for effective resolution of human resource issues. Represents the Employer in labour relations matters and assists in determining the outcome of grievances.
