**Job Summary**
The Pastry Chef/Baker is responsible for the preparation, presentation, and production of all baked goods and desserts for the residents of the Vermilion Valley Lodge and Designated Supportive Living 3 withing the Vermilion & District Housing Foundation (VDHF). This position ensures that residents receive high quality and nutritious baking and desserts that meets dietary requirements.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- **Essential Functions**:_
- Prepare, present, store, and oversee the production of all baked goods and desserts, including but not limited to cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, breads, buns, muffins, etc.
- Ensure the correct quantity of items for the residents served.
- Critical Task - Label all baked goods and desserts for residents according to lists located in the kitchen (ie. Gluten free, diabetic, etc.).
- Prepares all food as directed in a sanitary and timely manner.
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in various kitchen areas including refrigerators and storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
- Ensure that all food products are stored in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Ensure food is stored in appropriate containers and labelled.
- Ensure consistent food preparation and responsible for meeting or exceeding high standards of food quality.
- Completes additional job duties as assigned from time to time by the Head Chef or Food Services Operations Manager.

- Maintains knowledge of and comply with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, while continually seeking learning opportunities to enhance knowledge in relevant fields of work.
- Participates, in good faith and to the best of their ability, in all training and development programs, as assigned by VDHF.
- Maintains knowledge of and complies with all Occupational Health and Safety legislation, as well as Occupational Health and Safety policies; complies with all safe work procedures and OH&S requirements; monitors and enforces employee compliance with OH&S regulations.
**Qualifications**
- **Education and Experience**:_
- Minimum one (1) year experience in the Hospitality industry or Retirement Living Facility.
- **Skills and Attributes**:_
- Excellent verbal English skills to effectively communicate with all residents, visitors and staff
- An effective team player who works well with others.
- Proven experience in food Quality Control
- Knowledge of Health & Safety practices as they relate to kitchen operations
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skill that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- Proper knowledge for use and maintenance of all equipment in station
- Basic Food Safety Course required
- A completion of a satisfactory criminal record check for the vulnerable population (CRC) prior to first day of employment
**Hours of Work**
Full time hours with variable scheduling
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
