Whistler, Canada Pika Landscapes Full time

Pika Landscapes has been creating and maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces in Whistler and beyond for more than 20 years.

If you've piloted a medium-duty truck and like working outside and getting your hands dirty, we’d like to talk to you.

We’re known for:

- Open book management: everyone learns how the business runs, the numbers behind it and how their efforts impacts it. If we hit the goals we set together, everyone shares in the profit with quarterly pay outs.
- Organic principles (Whistler’s only certified Organic Landscape business)
- Supporting a great work-life balance in a lifestyle-oriented mountain resort town
- Having fun
- Our new vehicles and equipment
- Cultivating a tight-knit, high performing team
- Lots of 3-day weekends during the summer months
- Overtime pay (not the industry norm)
- Having systems in place for much of what we do
- Creating growth opportunities for staff:

- transparent organizational structure
- detailed job descriptions and pay scale for each role
- annual budget allocated to key staff education and training

**This is a full-time (~40hr/week, Monday to Friday) seasonal role starting early April and wrapping up sometime in November depending on weather.**
- **--- Staff Accommodation may be available ---**_

While based in Whistler, we also service Squamish and Pemberton.

We’re looking for someone qualified with roots in the Sea to Sky, or looking to plant them, to manage a small team and be a key part of Pika Landscapes’ growth for years to come.

**Job overview**

This is a role designed to help support our field crews and make their days a bit more efficient. You’ll do that through the delivery and pickup of materials and machines with our 2022 hook-lift bin truck. You’ll also service external clients in the Sea to Sky by delivering and picking up bins and materials for them.

You will report to our Logistics Manager.

Pika Landscapes is growing with a seasonal staff of 30+. We’re always investing in new equipment, are based in the mountain resort town of Whistler and have daily opportunities to create and maintain beautiful outdoor spaces.

**Specific responsibilities**

You’ll work and manage your time independently and be comfortable with constantly shifting priorities and plans. Some days will unfold differently than expected.

Tasks may include:

- pickup of bulk materials at Pika’s centrally located works yard or nearby material suppliers and dump at job sites. Includes operating a front-end loader to load truck.
- delivery of empty or full bins of material to job sites
- pickup of full bins of material from job sites and disposal
- loading and moving heavy equipment (mini-excavators, loaders) between jobs sites
- care and preventative maintenance of bin truck, bins and Pika heavy machinery
- fueling up and greasing heavy machinery

As we don’t expect bin coordination to be a 40h/week effort, you’ll also help crews install landscapes when needed i.e. various hands-on landscape tasks like planting or installing concrete pavers. Further, this job will include some responsibilities with the care of our works yard.

**About the Pika hook-lift bin truck**
- New in 2022
- Custome Freighliner, Single axle, 27,000lbs GVRW
- Has a 22,000lb capacity hook lift attachment that can load/unload our various bins and/or flat deck attachment

**You’ll be good at this job if**
- You’re organized and adaptable: schedules and circumstances often change no matter how well we plan, so you roll with it with a smile. You have a habit of writing things down and prioritizing.
- You’re always thinking about how to do things better (faster, safer, more efficiently) and you take the initiative to put those adjustments in motion
- You’re responsible and dependable
- You like working with others, but are also happy to work independently for long periods of time
- You love being outside rain or shine
- You’re self-aware, can take direct feedback and want to grow personally
- You listen well, follow instructions and ask questions when things aren’t clear
- You communicate effectively and proactively. You’ll be in contact with all crews daily.
- You’re keen to learn
- You’re accountable and have a mature sense of personal responsibility: you say what you think, make commitments and follow through
- You’re inclined to smile and be polite even when you don’t feel like it. We want our customers to love you.
- You like to have fun. Some days are tough due to foul weather, project surprises, challenging personalities, or difficult work but you’re skilled at modelling fun no matter what.
- You sweat the details. We don’t cut corners and quality is critical.

**Requirements**:

- No previous landscape construction experience required
- Secondary school diploma
- An able body that can handle physical tasks all day long. Able to lift 100lb objects, and 50lbs over your head.
- At least a class 5 driver’s license in good standing
- Experience driving
