**SQF Practitioner, Food Safety & Quality Manager.**
Reporting to the CEO the QA Manager is leading the planning, managing, organizing, and controlling the Quality
Management System and the QA team of 3 direct reports.
The Food safety & Quality Assurance Manager coordinates and leads all aspects of our Food Safety and Quality
Assurance programs, ensuring that the products we manufacture meet all associated regulatory and customer requirements.

- Customer portals, complaints
- Artwork approvals
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**:
- Promote a food safety culture among all employees.
- Oversee the facility HACCP program to meet the Company, customers, CFIA and third-party food safety standards
- Functions as the SQF Practitioner, the HACCP Team Lead and a Preventive Control Qualified Individual
(PCQI)
- The SQF Practitioner is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety
Enhancement Program and the SQF Program. Ensure the facility is in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements
- SQF Practitioner has overall **responsibility and authority** to:
→ Act as the main contact person between the plant and CFIA
→ Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System, including
Good Manufacturing Practices outlined and the Food Safety Plan.
→ Take appropriate action to ensure the ongoing integrity of the SQF System
→ Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System
- The PCQI, prepares and oversees the written food safety plan required of food facilities. The preventive controls qualified individual is charged with overseeing the validation that preventive controls are capable of controlling identified hazards and the records review.
- Works with the plant to complete the development and implementation of Safe Quality Food Systems program and demonstrate compliance at the facility in order to retain SQF registration. Supports the program to ensure maintenance of certification.
- Leads the HACCP Team and ensures that the HACCP System complies with Safe Food for Canadians requirements
- Supports and leads internal and external audits (SQF, audits requested by customers, CFIA, etc.)
- Ensures timely closure to necessary corrective action items associated with any customer complaints, 3rd party, internal or CFIA audits
- Conducts plant inspections and is the technical support for production, sanitation, and distribution issues
- Provides recommendations to improve the food safety & quality programs based on analysis of relevant data
- Primary person to coordinate and manage any product recalls
- Ensures that all personnel adopt and integrate the good manufacturing practices in their day to day tasks to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of manufacturing operations
- Regularly communicate to Senior Management on the compliance to the quality and food safety system and ongoing challenges
- Maintains and reviews database of supplier documentation for the products including product specifications
- Maintains and reviews documentation for customer specifications, recipes and product formulas.
- Determine training needed for employees and Management, maintain records of training to show training program is in compliance.
- Coordinate sample collection and third-party laboratory testing to meet all applicable legislations and customer requirements
- Ensures validation of changes to pre-requisite programs and HACCP plans
- Manages QA department schedules and activities. Monitors and perform work evaluations for continuous improvement and efficiency.
**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**:
**MUST HAVE**:
- **MUST BE CERTIFIED as a SQF Practitioner and a PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) and be**
**HACCP certified.**
- At least 3 years of proven supervisory experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in a food manufacturing facility regulated by the CFIA.
**Education**:
- A University degree in Food Science or related field, or equivalent.
- Proven leadership and decision-making experience
- Strong computer and organizational skills; working knowledge of MS Office.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
- Activities include walking, kneeling, lifting, climbing ladders and stairs, bending, stacking, twisting, pulling, pushing, inserting, sitting, squatting, standing, accumulating, and collating motions.
- Be able to handle 25 lbs of material with assistance occasionally.
