**Role Summary**:
The Purchasing Department Leader is responsible for managing and supporting the company’s procurement requirements to meet company/regulatory policies and procedures.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Leads and coordinates all aspects of purchasing and supplier development activities on behalf of the company; including, but not limited to supplier suitability evaluation, requests for quotation, cost breakdown analysis, negotiations, supplier cost audits, contract reviews, and supplier selection which meets the budgets, policies, ethical standards, and audit requirements of the division.
- Establishes an environment among the purchasing team where supplier cost reduction initiatives are part of daily tasks to meet annual reduction targets.
- Able to identify potential risks which exist within the supply base, devise a plan, and lead a team to mitigate any negative impacts to the company.
- Diligent in evaluating suppliers during the quotation phase to ensure quality, delivery, program management, and cost expectations are met throughout program life.
- Support post award supplier audits on an annual basis or more frequently based on supplier performance with appropriate supplier performance improvement plans.
- Able to manage high risk and difficult suppliers.
- Able to build and mentor an effective and empowered purchasing team to support business needs.
- Actively participates as a dynamic, progressive member of the leadership team to strengthen our ability to perform and grow to meet our maximum group potential.
- Monitors the activities of the purchasing team to ensure proper purchasing procedures and analysis are completed prior to supplier selection.
- Develops, maintains and enhances the elements of S.P.Q.P. in support of the company culture
- Establishes and maintains effective communications with all Departments
- Implements and maintains all company plans to hire and train team members to support business needs.
- Provides formal and informal performance feedback to Team Members
- Meet the divisional overall Key Performance Indicators, as set out in the Division’s plan
- Conducts accident / incident investigations as required
- Knows and understands process documentation and customer specific requirements as they relate to this job function.
- Completes layered audits to include safety, standardized work, housekeeping, 5S, and Quality inspection reports.
- Able to review and execute legal documents (ex. NDA, Bailment agreement)
- Follows and complies with all Operational Procedures and Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (ie. TS16949, ISO14001)
- Understands, promotes and lives by Magna’s philosophies and Employee Charter

- Physically able to perform the essential duties of the position.
**Key Qualifications/Requirements**:
- Post-Secondary Degree in Business Administration/Engineering or Completed Certified
- Professional Purchasing (CPP) accreditation
- Minimum five (5) years leadership experience in automotive or related manufacturing industry
- Minimum five (5) to ten (10) years purchasing experience
- Knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes, components and supply chain management
- Strong negotiating skills
- Strong understanding of contract language
- Prior experience with supplier Advanced Product Quality Planning process
- Familiarity with ISO/TS 16949 and Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) standards
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical and problem solving skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Power BI, Microsoft Teams, SAP)
- Familiar with all aspects of purchasing within Deco Automotive
- Eligible to travel outside of Canada with a required valid passport
- Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs
- Ability to uphold confidentiality
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
