Job DescriptionThe Outreach Worker provides support to self-identified Japanese-speaking women who live or are physically located in British Columbia and the Yukon and who have experienced gender-based violence.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Providing the following to clients who have experienced gender-based violence:

- Respond to crisis calls
- Provide emotional support
- Conduct Intake including needs assessment
- Explore options
- Assistance to navigate the criminal and family justice system, including accompaniment to police services and/or court
- Advocacy with government and community agencies
- Information about gender based violence
- Referrals to government and community agencies
- Keeping accurate records, files and statistical information as per practice/policy.
- Other duties as required.

**What you’ll need**:

- The ability to speak, read and write Japanese fluently
- A minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education in a related field and/or 1 year of related experience
- Experience working with women and non-binary people who have experienced gender-based violence
- A feminist understanding of the root causes of gender-based violence
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice
- An understanding of the criminal justice system and the family justice system
- Excellent communication skills
- Good de-escalation skills
- Appropriate boundaries
- Able to work well independently
- Knowledge of resources in Metro Vancouver would be an asset
- Experience with/willingness to learn to use: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, ADP, Concur, Safety Line and Relias.
- A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
- The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such a policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
