**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**

The position of the Distress Centre Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the effective and efficient running of the day-to-day operations of the Distress Centre. Responsibilities include recruiting, screening, training, as well as ongoing monitoring and support to the volunteers to provide the telephone services and referral to the crisis line.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- 2 year Community College diploma in social services or related field, with specialization in rehabilitation counselling
- 3-5 years related experience
- Volunteer Resource Management Certificate would be an asset
- Knowledge of the needs and best practice service standards for persons with mental health issues and/or developmental disabilities
- Well-developed understanding of the social services sector and the challenges within the community
- Extensive knowledge of community resources
- Able to provide intervention supports to a variety of individuals in crisis requiring support and referral services
- Able to supervise and retain volunteers
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, anticipation, organization and time management skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Broad knowledge of community and mental health services and resources
- CPI, CPR and First Aid would be an asset
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

**POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES**

**1. **PROVIDES SERVICES BY**:

- Coordinating the services of the Distress Centre and scheduling for the volunteers in accordance with agency policies and procedures
- Recruiting, screening, evaluating and retaining volunteers
- Training volunteers to develop the skills and knowledge required to provide the services of the program
- Reporting any incidents to the assigned team or Manager for support and assistance
- Developing and designing volunteer information training manuals
- Providing suicide intervention training
- Representing the agency and Distress Centre in public meetings and events
- Providing scheduling back-up services and emergency line coverage to volunteers
- Providing sensitivity and awareness training

**2. **PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICES BY**:

- Ensuring supplies and equipment are available and functioning for all volunteers
- Coordinating efforts and operations with other community groups with common interests to establish working relationships and ongoing protocols
- Trouble-shooting any systems issues that arise
- Reviewing the call log and making recommendations on actions
- Reviewing the call log and making call alerts
- Reviewing the call log and providing direct feedback to volunteers
- Preparing volunteer training manual, volunteer community resource guides and educational materials

- Is knowledgeable about Quality Assurance Measures (QAM) guidelines as directed by the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services (MCCSS)
- Is knowledgeable about, ensures others are knowledgeable about and complies with the agency’s policies and procedures
- Operates, at all times, in a safe and secure manner

**5. **HEALTH AND SAFETY**:

- Ensure Health and Safety Program requirements are followed based on the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Ensure an awareness of safety measures for the agency, yourself and the individuals receiving services.
- Ensure compliance with the agency’s mandatory training requirements.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**

The Distress Centre Volunteer Coordinator is directly responsible to the Manager Children’s Services and Distress Centre.

**Status**:Permanent Part-Time

**Hours of work**:29 hours weekly

**2023 Salary**:$27.63 hourly

**Location**:Brockville, Leeds Grenville
