Animal Care Worker

Community Animal Services (Lethbridge Animal Bylaw Services Ltd.) provides animal control services and operates the City of Lethbridge Animal Shelter on contract.
**Position: Animal Care Worker - Full Time**
Community Animal Services is seeking an individual to fill a full-time Animal Care Worker position at the Lethbridge Animal Shelter. This position is responsible for the direct care of domestic animals being housed in the facility. This is a fast-paced and changing environment and includes the handling of stray, injured, and aggressive cats and dogs. This position will typically be scheduled to work five days on, with two off; however, the schedule may be adapted to operational needs.
**Rate of Pay**: $15.00 to $20.00 per hour to be determined based on experience.
**Job Duties**:
- Feed animals, clean and disinfect kennels, and provide enrichment activities on a daily basis.
- Assist with basic medical treatment of animals.
- Asses and monitor animals health/ behavior.
- Bathing and grooming animals.
- Keeping records of animal health and behavior.
- Maintain equipment and supplies.
**Required Qualifications**:
- Demonstrated experience and or understanding of animal wellness and behavior.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, additional education or certification will be considered an asset but not necessary.
- Physically fit for handling animals and standing for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift over 50 pounds.
- Attention to detail, and able to work well in a team or individual environment.
- Must have a valid Alberta class 5 drivers license.
- Must be able to handle a fast-paced and stressful environment.
**Additional Assets**:
- Experience with domestic animals; training, grooming, animal care.
- Sound judgment and problem solving skills.
- Flexibility/ reliability.
- Excellent oral communication.
