Primary function

**Job Title**: 2024 2L Summer Law Student - Refugee & Immigration

**Assignment**: Summer 2024 (May - August)

**Compensation**: $19.00/Hour

**Home Location**: Hamilton - Refugee Law Office

**Secondary/Tertiary Location**: N/A

**Reposting to**: Manager of Legal Services - Refugee Law Office, Hamilton

Key accountabilities

Required skills & experience
- Student of recognized law school
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice or public interest work
- Demonstrated interest in practicing refugee/immigration law and/or working with newcomer communities
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Understanding of the Legal Aid Ontario’s mandate and services
- Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, build relationships, and work with teams
- Experience in providing client service to marginalized populations such as racialized communities, youth, and those experiencing mental health or addiction challenges and/or homelessness
- Additional language skills (Spanish, Arabic, Punjabi, Somalian, Tigrinya, Tamil, etc.) are a preferred asset.
