Payroll Analyst

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, the Payroll Analyst performs a variety of complex accounting functions in the preparation, processing, maintenance, verification and reconciliation of payroll/benefit records, remittances, tax payments, garnishments, and all other payroll accounts. You will be responsible for documenting and creating standard operating procedures, participating in audits, reviewing accuracy between systems, ensuring compliance and assisting with reporting.

**In a typical day, YOU will**:
- Be responsible for month-end and quarterly reconciliations of payroll/benefits records and preparation of journal entries. Verify discrepancies and report any variances. Ensure that provincial and federal remittances, garnishments, and taxes, etc., are paid and released on time.Support year-end activities, tax filings, reporting and year-end adjustments for all pay groups as it relates to payroll/benefits items. Coordinate deadlines and ensure compliance.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and processes for payroll reconciliations and identify areas of improvement. Prepare monthly/annual payroll calendar of activities and milestones related to financial reporting, deadlines, change in regulations and requirements.
- Act as backup for payroll team and participate in the review, verification, auditing and processing of payroll forms, records and documents.
- Assist with the configuration and testing of payroll items in HRIS and support payroll team with reporting and analysis. Support auditing requests both internally and externally.
- Describe key job function

**Must-haves for this role**:
- 6-8 years of relevant experience
- Vocational Diploma / Cegep in Accounting, Finance, Business Admin, HR
- PCP Certification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills; MS Office Suite (Intermediate/Advanced Excel)
- Handles confidential information with utmost discretion
- Professional, show good judgement and a positive attitude
- Highly organized, able to prioritize and be detail oriented
- Expert knowledge of payroll systems and HRIS reporting
- Knowledge of accounting practices and Toromont’s GL reporting
- Support year-end activities, reporting and year-end adjustments for all paygroups.
