**Job Summary**:
Are you interested in using your research and analysis skills to respond to emerging issues, solve problems and improve the lives of Mississauga residents? The Enforcement Division, Business Support unit in the City of Mississauga is looking for a Researcher to lead research efforts to support policy development. The researcher will identify issues, analyze, make recommendations, interpret research and policy studies, and maintain databases. They will also be responsible to implement solutions and convey information to internal and external stakeholders.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Achieving compliance with municipal by-laws through awareness, education and enforcement
- Providing enforcement services in a safe and professional manner to maintain compliance, safety and community standards in the City
- Revising existing by-laws and to develop and implement new by-laws, in response to the needs of Council and the community, to ensure an effective municipal by-law infrastructure is in place

Major responsibilities will include:

- Communicate effectively with staff and stakeholders to maintain professional relationships, ensuring the coordination of shared knowledge and data is maintained in a professional and conducive manner
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Council activities and priorities with intragovernmental agendas
- Proactively monitor policy landscape at all three levels of government to identify and provide insight on emerging policy issues
- Independently forecast potential demands on the Division and take initiative to complete necessary work
- Identify and maintain documentation for internal and external research requests along with maintaining a network roster of contacts in comparable jurisdictions
- Research specific topics and conduct benchmarking of multiple jurisdictions, provide key information and analysis, draw conclusions and make recommendations to support effective divisional decision making
- Summarize and prepare various correspondence, presentations, briefing notes and other materials for a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, Councillors and residents
- Support business teams to provide research assistance in the development of reports for council and committees

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Post secondary education from a Canadian College/University in political science, public policy, economics or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2-3 years’ experience in research and analytical role
- Knowledge and understanding of municipal government, including the role of Council and the municipal relationship with the regional, provincial and federal levels of government
- Public sector experience considered an asset
- Strong research skills to undertake qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents and respond to internal inquiries
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
- Demonstrated planning and time management skills along with the ability to learn quickly, thoroughly, and in detail
- Demonstrated ability to show good judgement and maintain confidentiality
- Political acumen, judgement and insight
- Experience with Microsoft office suite and database knowledge
- May require some light lifting of supplies/materials

Hourly Rate/Salary: $35.42- $47.23
