At the heart of VIA Rail’s Technology and Enterprise Architecture team, the IT Analyst has a key and multifaceted role to create value for our internal and external customers.
The IT Analyst will be working with a community of analysts as well as other Subject Matter Experts to recommend and deliver business solutions addressing various business requirements and technical challenges. In addition, the IT Analyst will be working with various service and solution providers such as cloud, hosting and software providers.
The IT Analyst will enhance their business and technology knowledge by analyzing, recommending, implementing, and supporting solutions for VIA business users.
They will bring a fresh perspective to VIA, demonstrate a passion for learning new things, and grow with the company.
**Responsibilities**:

Requirements management and analysis:

- Business requirements: Liaise with the Business (Product owner and / or Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)) to capture, consolidate, prioritize, and document business requirements and to explore alternative solutions. Use business processes, data modeling techniques, documentation, and tools to capture and analyze business rules and requirements and to suggest improvements.
- Functional specifications: Provide functional analyses through the creation of deliverables like user stories, use cases, wireframes, domain models, and/or mock-ups. These deliverables should be detailed enough to enable developers to build and implement the solutions effectively. Develop functional specifications for system aspects, and gain an understanding of the modules being implemented, as well as the setup and configuration of the available options.

Project support:

- Contribute to projects by providing solution designs that align with project objectives. Coordinate small-scale projects with business users, as well as with internal and external providers. Participate or lead solution validation by creating test cases and conducting user acceptance tests.

Testing:

- As part of our built-in quality approach: Write and maintain test cases, conduct functional and integration tests for system changes that will be delivered to ensure they meet our specifications and quality standards. Track and address any identified defects.

Deployment:

- Oversee the implementation schedules and deadlines. Provide user support during the deployment phase. Participate in the development of documentation, acceptance tests, support tools and user training programs. Support the development and testing teams and provide hypercare (project aftercare).

Support:

- Incident management: Acknowledge and analyze reported incidents, identify, and implement solutions during regular business hours. Work closely with the business and both internal and external providers to restore services while adhering to agreed-upon Service Levels;
- Vendor relationship: Own the relationship with the Application Management Service providers serving as the primary point of contact between the business and the supplier.
Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science (or a related field);
- 6+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Functional Analyst and/or Business Support Analyst. Relevant Product Owner experience also recognized;
- Microsoft and collaboration tools knowledge: O365, Teams, Azure DevOps, JIRA, EPM, etc;
- Experience in writing user stories / use cases, designing wireframes, and developing functional specifications or equivalent experience. Solid understanding of the importance of a good UI/UX and its close link with customer satisfaction and employee productivity (an asset);
- Notions or experience different frameworks such as BPMN, UML, Agile (Scrum, SAFe or other) or other (an asset);
- Good programming and database management skills (an asset).
