Position Summary

Reporting to the Coordinator, Cultural Services, this part-time position assists with the delivery of safe, fun and inclusive arts recreation programs for older adults, specifically supporting The Milton Veteran Creative Exchange program. Milton Veteran Creative Exchange - Empowering Generations Through Art, is a free six-week intergenerational arts program open to veterans, adults 55+ and preschoolers that will run sessions throughout spring, summer, and fall 2024. The Milton Veteran Creative Exchange - Empowering Generations Through Art, program is hosted by FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 136. This program was made possible by the New Horizons Grant, a federal grant that supports community-based projects that are designed by seniors for seniors. A per grant requirements, this position is only open to applicants 55+.

Major Job Responsibilities
- Program implementation with a focus on quality customer experiences:_- Assist with the preparation and delivery of lesson plans to meet the needs of older adults- Assist in providing a safe and well-supervised learning environment by looking for and removing hazards and ensuring proper usage of program equipment and supplies.- Communicate facility set-up and or facility/equipment deficiencies to facility operations staff and/or supervisor.- Prepare materials and program space as per lesson plan- Responsible for the set-up and take down of required equipment- Provide guidance and oversight of volunteers- Establish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff and participants- Maintain communication with Box Office to provide relevant program updates and to request support in the event of an emergency- Maintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement.- Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Administrative Tasks:_- Attend and participate in mandatory staff trainings/functions as scheduled- Maintain daily attendance records and other administrative records as required- Report any incidents, concerns or site damage to supervisor- Assist with scheduling contract artists and instructors for the session- Assist with sourcing and purchasing art materials and assistive devices- Help remove any transportation barriers that may restrict participants from attending program by working with Milton Transit to schedule transit- Responsible for sending reminders and follow up communication to program participants- Meet with Veterans and older adults in the community to promote program and assist as needed with participant registration

Education & Experience
- Minimum Required:_
- Basic knowledge of art, design and/or craft
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Preferred:_
- Courses in art, early childhood education, recreation or related field
- Grade 10 education
- Experience working with various age groups
- Experience working with persons with exceptionalities
- Experience working in office administration
