**Patient Transfer Escort - Minimum and Medium Security Units**

**What you’ll do**
- Provide safe and secure escort for Forensic Psychiatric Hospital patients to outside agencies, including secure facilities, hospitals, group homes and specialists outside of the hospital; assumes custody of patient from outside agencies to the hospital and ensures the safety and protection to the public and employees of the other agencies.
- Escort patients to and from programs, Review Boards, Review Panels and throughout all levels of security within the facility, including Gym, Rehab, Physiotherapy, Fir Hall, OT, and on supervised grounds as per policy, and task specific safe work practices throughout each unit, including program areas and grounds of the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital site.
- In collaboration with the Consults Services, units, programs and Forensic Security Officers, and under the direction of their Clinical Manager, schedules patient transfers and appointments to lower mainland hospitals, clinics and providers and selects required equipment such as stretcher or wheelchair as indicated through verbal direction, and pushes patient on designated equipment to ensure prompt arrival at specified location.
- Assist with movement of patients, as instructed by health care staff, by lifting and transferring patients on and off beds, stretchers and wheelchairs, following safe lifting practices and utilize lifts and/or slide boards as required.
- Accompany patients on transportation to other facilities and appointments by methods such as collecting relevant patient forms and clinical information from designated personnel, assisting to secure patients in vehicle, transferring patient from wheelchair and stretchers following safe lifting practices and utilizing slide boards, forwarding patient information to designated personnel as required and escorting patient(s) to appointment. Provide assistance to the patient(s) throughout appointment as required; escorts patient(s) back to the facility and delivers patient information back to designated personnel.
- Observe and monitor patient’s behaviors, reports problems or concerns to Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Documents in patient’s charts time off the unit and notifies nursing and/or technical staff of any problems or patient concerns.
**What you bring**
**Qualifications**
- Grade 10. Graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant or Care Attendant program, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current CPR certificate
- Valid BC Class IV Driver's license.
**Skills and Knowledge**
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
