Job DescriptionThe YWCA, in partnership with the Mothers Matter Centre, is piloting the HIPPY project within the 2nd stage transition houses in the Lower Mainland.
The YWCA HIPPY coordinator reports to the Manager, Transition Housing and is responsible for overseeing, implementing and co-ordinating the HIPPY program.
About the HIPPY Program: Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is an evidence-based program that works in the home to support vulnerable and isolated mothers in their critical role as their child’s first and most important teacher. HIPPY strengthens families and communities by empowering mothers to actively participate in Canadian society and prepare their children for success in school and life. As the foundational program of the Mothers Matter Centre, HIPPY Canada has transformed more than 55,000 lives.
This position will see the overseeing of the pilot program in 2nd stage Transition Houses
**What you’ll be doing**:
- Recruitment of families to participate in HIPPY
- Providing both virtual and in person support for Home Visitors (HV’s)
- Schedule pre-home visits to do intake with families. Oversee general intake process.
- Order relevant supplies and materials for programming
- Enrolling HV’s and families in ETO
- Meeting with stakeholders and other service providers to create networks and communities for families
- Organizing and distribute relevant information and pamphlets where needed
- Organizing group meetings between other co-ordinators and with HV’s
- Completing progress reports for HV’s and families
- Data entry in ETO
- Organizing social events and field trips
- Provide training for Home Visitors on HIPPY materials and professional development topics, as required by the Mothers Matter Centre.
- Participate in national HIPPY activities and programs (i.e. monthly conference calls, ongoing training webinars, etc.
- Promoting the model - presentations to stakeholders etc
- Represent HIPPY site at conferences, presentations and community meetings.
- Recommending changes to program materials and the methodology as required
- Implement special projects (whenever feasible) as part of the HIPPY Program (i.e. Adopt-a-Reader Campaign, Story Bank Project, Mothers Matter Awards, etc.).
- Manage logistics pertaining to technology (ie. Ordering and handing out tablets for moms)
- Planning and executing HIPPY graduations
- Other duties as required
**What you’ll need**:
- Experience working with single mothers
- Able to articulate a feminist analysis of violence against women
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of social services policies and practices
- Knowledge of early childhood learning is an asset (but not required)
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to oversee and manage a team of 2-3 home visitors
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent technological computer skills (excel, ETO, etc.)
- A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
- The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
