**The Access Tutor (English/History) is a pilot project to provide regularly available assistance within the Helen Betty Osborne building beyond the individual tutor assistance that can be requested but that takes some time to then put in place. Given that students regularly request assistance too late within a given course, providing a regularly available and highly visible tutor is important because it will allow for drop-in and earlier assistance. I may also allow for cross-course and cross-year assistance.**

The tutor will work 1-2 regular shifts per week in the late afternoon and early evening. This will allow for all Access Education students to see and access the services. The tutor(s) will work out of a shared regular space to increase visibility and accessibility. The tutor(s) may also be asked to assist in other ways that generally relate to the student spaces and student culture that is provided and supported by Access Education. The English and/or History Departments will be consulted with respect to the appropriateness of potential applicants.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Maintain regularly scheduled and posted times to provide consultation and feedback to students on coursework, quality of materials submitted for grading, and other similar matters;
- Maintain records; may assist in the reproduction of tests; organize course materials; etc.
- May assist with proctoring/invigilating tests, exams and quizzes;
- Attend training related to the assigned duties and responsibilities;
- Perform other related tasks as required.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Completion of academic studies and/or relevant experience appropriate to assigned duties.
- Normally an undergraduate student at the University of Winnipeg who has successfully completed a minimum of 30 credit hours.
- Successful completion of required training.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, marking guides, policies and procedures.
- Ability to meet specified deadlines.
- Ability to interact empathetically with students, particularly in tutoring situations.
- Capable of performing the duties as assigned.

**Additional Requirements**:

- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- A third year English or History student preferred.
- Experience as a course-based tutor is preferable.
- Some other Humanities or Social Sciences students could be considered.
- Students must be approved for the 2023-24 Work-Study program. Students may be eligible for the Work-Study Program if they meet **all **of the following criteria:

- Currently registered in an undergraduate or graduate program at The University of Winnipeg (PACE and ELP students are currently ineligible).
- Enrolled full-time (i.e., at least 18 credit hours or 12 credit hours if registered with Accessibility Services) for the current Fall/Winter session.
- Completed 24 credit hours at an undergraduate level at The University of Winnipeg (or equivalent);
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
- Have demonstrated financial need (shortage between your expenses and resources).
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person or an international student with a valid study permit.
