As our Junior Communications Advisor you will assist with the day-to-day needs of the Communications Department. This position will coordinate and facilitate the timely execution of digital and traditional communications (organic, planned and paid) through the guidance of the Corporate Communications Advisor. The Junior Communications Advisor will also support the technical needs of council meetings.

Compensation for this non-union position includes an annual salary of $64,363 - $77,228 and a comprehensive health and wellness benefits package.

**Position Objective**

Assist with the day-to-day needs of the Communications Department. This position will coordinate and facilitate the timely execution of digital and traditional communications (organic, planned, and paid) through the guidance of the Corporate Communications Advisor. The Jr. Communications Advisor will also support the technical needs of council meetings.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

Communication (Digital & Traditional)

1. Act as a website specialist, providing support and expertise to various departments to ensure accurate, aesthetically pleasing, AODA-compliant content is presented on forterie.ca

2. Coordinate and assist in developing and implementing corporate communication products, including but not limited to website updates, radio and newspaper advertisements, social media postings, presentations, announcements, corporate correspondence, reports, and various other professional materials.

3. Support the implementation of public outreach strategies to engage citizens and stakeholders to improve two-way communication proactively.

4. Support enhancing public knowledge, understanding, and engagement of Town programs, services, policies, activities, initiatives, and special events and responding to general inquiries and suggested improvements.

5. Monitor the Town’s brand, online presence, and social media accounts.

6. Ensure all communication products are consistent with style and logo use guidelines while complying with accessibility standards.

7. Attend business openings and capture photos and videos to use as promotional material.

8. Organize and expand a digital asset library of photos, videos, and audio assets.

9. Ability to produce graphic art, web and social media graphics, employee newsletters, and other visuals is considered an asset.

10. Act as a backup in emergencies and storm events per the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

11. May be required to assist with special events and projects.

12. Will be required to work various hours, including some weekday evenings and weekends.

Media Relations

1. Support staff with the placement of Corporate advertisements in print and digital media.

2. Research/create/compose/distribute media releases, news tips, and important announcements.

3. Develop and maintain contacts with media outlets.

4. Conduct media scans; distribute to/consult with appropriate Town contacts

5. Coordinate media requests for information and interviews; provide onsite media support.

6. Coordinate logistics/venue set-up for media conferences/public meetings/dignitary visits requiring protocol or special detail.

7. Participate as a member of the Emergency Management Program Committee.

Council Meetings

1. Coordinate with staff before and during Council Meetings to ensure presentations are ready.

2. Create Zoom Meeting/Webinar and share the access URL and instructions with delegations and other remote attendees

3. Open Council Chambers, check lights, microphones, presentation folder, screen and all related.

4. Start YouTube stream and monitor, switching camera views as needed.

5. Run the technical aspects of Council Meetings

**Education & Experience**
- Post-secondary education in Journalism, Public Relations, Communication, Marketing (Digital) degree or related discipline
