Government Relations Specialist

The Canadian Dental Association (CDA) is seeking a **Government Relations Specialist **to join its Governance & Communications team for a fixed-term contract. The Government Relations Specialist will provide assistance to the team by supporting initiatives that influence positive policy outcomes for the dental profession and advance the oral health of Canadians.
**Your primary responsibilities will be;**
- to assist in developing and maintain strong relationships with key federal decision makers, including Ministers, Members of Parliament, and Senators, as well as their staff and public service officials;
- to monitor, track, and report on current issues, media reports, government activities, and parliamentary proceedings, as well as providing relevant insight and analysis;
- to assist in preparing backgrounders, reports, and position papers, on dental and oral health issues;
- to ensure advocacy products maintain and reinforce CDA’s corporate brand;
- to coordinate CDA’s annual “Days on the Hill” event as well as other meetings and outreach events throughout the year; and
- to provide support to the Board and relevant committees, working groups, task forces, or project teams on matters relating to advocacy and government relations.
**You should have;**
- an undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in government relations or politics.
- strong writing skills and interpersonal skills.
**And if;**
- you have strong knowledge of federal politics and current affairs.
- you possess an understanding of parliamentary procedure and the structure and processes of the federal government.
- you have experience with coordinating meetings and producing associated documents (agendas, minutes, reports).
- you have professionalism and judgment to communicate effectively with, and develop relationships with, high-level stakeholders.
- you can multi-task and maintain an above-average attention to detail.
- you are bilingual and you are familiar with health policy.
- you have experience working or interning on Parliament Hill, this would be considered a significant asset.
