The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is a not-for-profit organization tasked with the safe, long-term management of Canada’s used nuclear fuel inside a deep geological repository, in a manner that protects people and the environment for generations to come.

Founded in 2002, the NWMO has been guided for 20 years by a dedicated team of world-class scientists, engineers and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers that are developing innovative and collaborative solutions for nuclear waste management. Canada’s plan will only proceed in an area with informed and willing hosts, where the municipality, First Nation and Métis communities, and others in the area are working together to implement it. The NWMO plans to select a site in 2024. and two areas remain in our site selection process: the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation-Ignace area in northwestern Ontario and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation-South Bruce area in southern Ontario.

Development Student - Communications - Corporate Communications

1 Position Available

Position Location: The position is based out of our Toronto Offices.

Employment Period: Summer/Fall Term: 4 months (May - August) or 8 months (May - December)

The Communications team operates in a fast-paced, creative environment and interacts with teams across the business. We are a not-for-profit organization implementing a large long-term national environmental infrastructure project that will last multiple generations. These roles are based in our Toronto headquarters at Yonge and St. Clair

**Responsibilities**:

- Support communications activities across the department, including social media, media relations, event planning, internal communications, industry relations, government relations, and overall corporate communications.
- Provide research and project management to support the department by developing and maintaining workback schedules and content calendars as needed
- Participate in the collation and management of communication reporting. Assist with evolving our metrics dashboard and activity tracking for ongoing project management and reporting.
- Support digital media, video production and website activities, including:

- Development of social media content, including videos
- Review and update customer resource management (CRM) activity and processes, to better connect to our website
- Support the production of NWMO written products
- Research, gather and seek approvals for written content
- Assist the senior writer and communications managers in drafting report and web content

We operate a full-service communications team within the NWMO, and to the extent time allows beyond the duties described above, the co-op student may be assigned to support other communications activities.

Qualifications and Experience
- An active registered student in a post-secondary communications-oriented program such as Public Relations.
- A quick learner that can work independently and as part of a team.
- Highly organized.
- Familiar with the principles of good communications planning.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal.
- Excellent computer skills - Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Other Information

ELIGIBILITY:

- Students must be returning full-time to their program at their university following the completion of their work term or be full-time students requiring the work term or co-op placement to graduate.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada and must be able to meet security clearance requirements.
- COVID Work Protocol: Students must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of 2nd dose vaccination as a requirement of employment.

Hybrid Work: Students working out of the Toronto office will be required to work in our hybrid work model of a minimum of 3 days in the Office.

Work Hours: Students must be available to work full-time, 35 hours per week during core business hours 8:30 am - 5 pm.
