AHS has an exciting opportunity for two Rural Acute Care Manager at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre. These positions will have responsibility for leadership of:
(1) Women’s Health and Surgical Programs

(2) Med/surg unit, the site float pool, and the porter positions

Additional programmatic, and/or project leadership opportunities may also be available.

In these positions you will support a dynamic healthcare team, and a diverse patient population living and working in a rural community with a focus on the AHS Patient First and Our People strategies. In this role, you will have accountability for the delivery of high quality, safe, accessible, sustainable, patient and family-centred care in your program area, and for delivering on our portfolio vision of Engaged, Supported, and Valued People. Your strong communication and change management skills, as well as your human resource and budget management skills are essential to being successful in this role. ‘

As part of the CenZ Acute Care leadership team, you will support and advance quality improvement, patient care, and staff engagement through strong working relationships, and in collaboration with colleagues, staff, community agencies, and zonal services. Your role includes responsibility for recruitment and performance management of human resources in a unionized environment. Reporting to the Director, Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre, and in partnership with the other local managers, you will provide staff and program leadership through demonstrated consistency of practice, competence as a leader, as well as commitment to the team, and to the overall purpose and vision of the portfolio, and the organization.

**Description**:
As part of the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre leadership team, the Rural Acute Care Manager is responsible to provide leadership and clinical operational support for the women's health and surgical programs in Wetaskiwin. Responsibilities of this role are to inform and support the implementation of local, zonal, and/or provincial initiatives within the identified program area. The manager is accountable to ensure the effective deployment of human resources (scheduling, rotations, skill mix etc.), and to create a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace where employees and physicians can reach their full potential.

Additionally, the manager will ensure the appropriate allocation of fiscal and capital resources across the area of accountability, and manage and report on the operating budget, including budget forecasting and expenditure monitoring in accordance with established AHS policies and practices. It is expected the manager will foster a culture of continuous quality improvement to ensure the ongoing evolution of high-quality healthcare through, for example: just in time learning, coaching, mentoring, orientation, and ongoing staff training and development.

This is not a typical office job. This job requires the individual to be available on a 24/7 basis on occasion. Early morning or evening hours is required at times. Emerging issues, and staff scheduling often require attention outside of regular business hours. This job has multiple, complex competing demands that cannot all be addressed from an office. The manager’s presence is required on the unit(s). Incumbent may support interim coverage for other managers during vacancies or absences.

**Required Qualifications**:
A post-secondary degree in a health profession, health administration, leadership, or other comparable degree. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession, as appropriate. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional development (e.g., continuing education courses).

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Progressive experience in a health care environment in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Uses strategic thinking, considering long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated effective problem solving. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to foster relationships across the organization to further the effectiveness of both the site(s) managed and programs contained within. Knowledge and understanding of Collective agreements and working with a unionized workforce. Discretion with sensitive situations, data, and personnel.
