**The opportunity**
At the core of our Canadian strategy, we put the customer at the center of everything we do. Our Group Benefits business supports over 25,000 employers and their employees across Canada. This role is an incredible opportunity to have an impact on our Group Benefits business as well as our Plan Sponsor journey.
**Responsibilities**
- Owns the underwriting transformation strategy, through the design, development and delivery of ideas, programs and initiatives focused on innovating our underwriting approach with focus on driving the intersection of analytics, pricing operations and underwriting - example, using analytics to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the underwriting selection process
- Perform research on innovations in the Group Benefits space and their applicability to enhancing Manulife’s underwriting offerings. Assess the impact and collaborate with Product leads to recommend and incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
- Research, negotiate and onboard vendor services and technology solutions to complement Manulife Underwriting approach
- Lead the development of business requirements and collaborate with IT resources to conceptualize ideas
- Collaborate with Product and Pricing leads to develop recommendations for key senior decision makers, including business leaders, internal risk oversight partners and external risk sharing collaborators such as Reinsurers
- Participates and represents the company in industry forums to stay ahead of competitor actions and industry advances (ex. advances in genetic testing, alternative data sources etc.)
- Participate and influence as key member of the Manulife Underwriting Innovation cross functional Product and Underwriting team

**What we are looking for**
- Advanced knowledge of Group Benefits industry, product features, distribution, underwriting, administration, and pricing practices
- Knowledge and understanding of medical, non-medical and financial underwriting principles and practices is considered an asset
- Proven ability to cultivate a hard-working culture and develop a strong pipeline of underwriting talent across multiple geographies
- Consistent record for strategic planning, tactical management and results driven successes
- Experience developing a strategy and managing a team through transformation
- Broad knowledge of claims experience modeling and medical drivers of claims experience
- Understanding traditional and non-traditional competition in Group Benefits landscape
- Highly developed negotiation, influencing and networking skills
- Sound knowledge of “Big Data” concept
- Excellent oral and written communications
- Highly engaged: able to self-manage workflow and push projects forward where no established process exists under deadline pressure
- Strong communication skills; comfort presenting to management on complex technical topics
- Excellent MS Office
