**Summer Conservation Field Assistant**

**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office in Edmonton, AB

**Position Status**: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Student (May-August)

**Key Responsibilities**
- Support land stewardship activities, including invasive species management, native plant seed collection, and property maintenance.
- Support environmental monitoring activities, including plant and animal surveys and habitat assessments.
- Support remote and field property assessments to identify lands for the potential establishment of new conversation areas.
- Support the planning and implementation of community engagements and events, in person or online.
- Assist with data entry and analysis of monitoring data.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist with administration of MNA Provincial events & programs.
- Other duties as required or assigned.

**Skills & Competencies**

We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about conservation and land stewardship activities and has excellent analytical skills. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment. Other skills/competencies include:

- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
- Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
- Experience with plant and wildlife identification and surveys is an asset.
- Experience interpreting conservation legislation, policies, and guidelines is an asset.
- Experience managing invasive or noxious plants is an asset.

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Conservation Science, Resource Management, or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- 1-2 years related experience in a conservation role is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.

**Other Requirements**
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.
