**Infection Prevention and Control Specialist**

**The Role**:
To provide infection prevention and control (IPAC) consultative advice reflecting current scientific evidence in order to build capacity, provide support in the implementation of IPAC tools, best practices and resource materials developed by Public Health Ontario (PHO), and to facilitate partnerships with other organizations and respond to requests for assistance on complex, new, and/or emerging and urgent IPAC issues.

Location: Please note this role could be located at any of the various PHO office locations across Ontario

**Key Responsibilities-**
- Provides IPAC expertise, advice and support in response to a range of complex inquiries, escalated or emerging issues including response to IPAC lapses and other urgent IPAC issues requiring advanced content expertise for resolution.
- Conducts audits, environmental scans and risk assessments as they relate to IPAC lapses and investigations. Where the situation indicates a need, attends on-site at a stakeholder organization to facilitate assessment and implementation.
- Provides IPAC advice and consultation in response to complex IPAC issues as requested by local Public Health Units, IPAC Hubs, and others involved in infection prevention and control.
- Works with provincial bodies (e.g., professional associations, regulatory colleges, others) to partner on PHO's prevention efforts and to influencing their memberships to improve IPAC practices.
- Provides information and advice to broad groups of stakeholders on a range of IPAC issues including the interpretation and dissemination of current evidence and best practices to guide sector specific prevention and response efforts.
- Works with colleagues in the coordination of Infection Control Resource Team (ICRT) visits or other urgent on-site or virtual IPAC assessments.
- Acts as the content expert for an assigned practice area or topic in order to lead or contribute to department initiatives including the development of new/revision of existing products or support in resource development.
- Leads and/or influences the development of stakeholder networks for discussions, development of stakeholder initiatives and capacity building on a broad range of IPAC topics (e.g., hand hygiene, AROs, pandemic response) specific to a variety of settings including both health and non-health environments.
- Works with colleagues in the development and/or delivery of broadly targeted education, webinars and information sessions on IPAC at large, regional or multi-stakeholder events.
- Participates in translating knowledge into practical resources for the field through literature review, critical appraisal and synthesis of current scientific evidence to IPAC best practice resources.
- Participates in implementation planning for tools, resources, and other IPAC initiatives including the dissemination of guidelines/best practices across the health care continuum.
- Facilitates stakeholder implementation of resources & best practices through networks, communities of practice, and other broadly-targeted methods.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of the Department's mandate and operating procedures by identifying, participating in, or leading projects that fit PHO's mission.
- Participates on provincial working groups and inter-PHO committees, professional associations, universities, federal and provincial counterparts to develop communities of practice and partnerships with key stakeholders on projects to influence provincial IPAC best practices. Contributes expertise in IPAC to enhance education programs.
- Keeps apprised of the latest research, trends and developments in IPAC.
- Contributes/reviews to issues management and the development and presentation of correspondence for PHO related IPAC issues.
- Provides technical support as part of PHO program evaluation to assess the effectiveness of programs, interventions, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge and Skills-**
- Knowledge of the various local stakeholder IPAC systems and settings (e.g., hospitals, health care providers, and public health units) and their IPAC challenges.
- Knowledge of IPAC lapse investigation and outbreak management reporting requirements in Ontario.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and trends in epidemiology, public health, acute care, long-term care and surveillance (e.g., privacy legislation).
- Knowledge of implementation science and adult learning techniques and skills in the delivery of formal learning/training sessions and presentations using adult learning techniques to stakeholders.
- Knowledge of project management methods to lead assigned projects in support of the design and implementation of IPAC projects.

**Education and Experience-**
- Degree or diploma in relevant health science or related discipline.
- Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in IPAC within a variety of health c
