A B O U T T H E R O L E

The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking several term instructors to be Recreation Program Leaders. These leaders serve on a recreation team responsible for the delivery of quality afterschool program experiences to children attending school in School District 69. Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinating team, the leaders will assist with planning and implementing quality recreation programs for children and youth. Duties include planning, organizing, and leading program activities; direct supervision, leadership, and safety monitoring of registered participants; integration of children with diverse abilities; providing excellent customer service; maintaining program supplies, equipment, and facilities; and other related duties as required.

- Ability to safely and effectively service; maintaining program supplies, equipment, and facilities; and other supervise children/youth related duties as required.
- First Aid (Emergency or Standard)
- Criminal Reference Check (CRC)

Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S

General qualifications include leadership experience working directly with children in recreation and/or childcare settings or other related services. Excellent communication skills and general knowledge of recreation programs, and guiding children’s behaviour are essential. Incumbents must possess and maintain a current first aid (Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid or Emergency Childcare First Aid) and CPR B or C. Other applicable certifications such as a Class 4 Driver’s License, High Five, NCCP, Canucks Autism Network, Physical Literacy 101, and training in nature outdoor skill development are considered assets.

These positions are dependent upon program registration. Work hours varybased on need; however, general hours will be Monday to Friday from approximately 2:30 pm - 7:30 pm with the possibility of some evening and weekends. Program locations include Oceanside Place Arena, Craig Street Commons, and Qualicum Commons.

Please Note: Term Instructors must submit a CRC within 30 days of their start date. Those working with the vulnerable sector will be required to complete a CRC prior to their start date.

**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 9-12 months

**Salary**: $20.50-$23.25 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Parksville, BC V9P 2X4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)
