Our Public Works Construction department is currently hiring a temporary **Labourer** to join our team for the summer months. This position offers employment from May to October, with a forty-hour work week. Our temporary staff receive job and safety training and are provided personal protective equipment.

If you enjoy working outside and being kept physically busy all day this may be a great fit for you. Our construction labourer works in a team environment with our construction crew providing support to our equipment operators. You must have a valid driver’s license, follow directions well, and be hands on. You are comfortable to operate light equipment, and have great attitude to do a job well.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Performs general labour including brushing, fencing, debris removal, trenching, and pipeline exposure.
- Flagging as required.
- Clean and maintain vehicle and tools as required.
- Provides labour to other departments as needed with supervisor direction.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department in order to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
- May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.

**COMPETENCY AREAS**:
Education/Training:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications/Designation:

- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Clean Driver’s Abstract

Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:

- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Experience and knowledge of mowing equipment operation
- Ability to perform physical labour
- Must be able to work independently and with mínimal supervision
- Familiarity and experience with light equipment is an asset
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact with many different individuals in a professional manner
- Ability to follow precise instructions
- Computer experience is required.
- Overtime and weekend work will be required when necessary.

**CLASSIFICATION**
Compensation and Classification:

- Temporary (Maximum Five Months Duration)
- Work Period from May to October
- Forty Hours Per Week; Monday to Friday (schedule may depend on weather, shift schedule may be implemented).
- Union Grid 1 - $22.31 to $26.04 per hour
- Non-supervisory
