Nature of the Position

Under the general direction of the Corporate Officer and the Director of Corporate and Community Services, the Deputy Corporate Officer assists with the functions related to the statutory duties and responsibilities of the Corporate Officer. This position provides administrative and organizational support to the Corporate Officer and to the Council and its Committees.

The incumbent will be responsible for coordination and execution of Council and Committee of the Whole meeting logistics; including attending and recording regular/special/closed meetings when required, as well as preparation and review of agendas and minutes as well as operation of audio-video equipment for meeting proceedings. Additional duties will include supporting the records management system, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act requirements, bylaw preparation, administrating legal agreements and notices, elections administration and acting as a stand-in Corporate Officer when required.

Essential Competencies

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 (or equivalent); plus, completion of a two-year diploma in Public Administration and five years’ recent experience in a similar role in a local government setting. An equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be considered.

Preferred Competencies

Experience working in municipal government setting; strong familiarity with, and comprehension of the Local Government Act, Community Charter and other applicable legislation is preferred.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, permanent exempt position with a competitive salary and an attractive benefits package. Hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday; however, flexibility is required to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
