The Property Management Division (PMD) of Highways & Public Works builds and maintains government buildings to provide safe workplaces for YG employees and public access to government services. We provide planning, design, project management, maintenance, custodial and grounds keeping services to Yukon’s buildings. We employ tradespeople, architects, engineers, labourers, administrators, and many other exciting careers.

**This opportunity**

The Safety Coordinator works closely with the senior management team for PMD and plays a key role in promoting a safety oriented culture, ensuring continuous training of staff and maintenance of the Health and Safety Management System. This position provides employees and management advice and oversight required to meet the Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, Canadian Standards and best practices for a safe and healthy work environment.

**Essential Qualifications** (what we’re looking for in your resume):

- Post-Secondary education or experience in Occupational Health and Safety or related field;
- Experience developing and implementing training programs and workshops related to occupational health and safety;
- Experience developing safety-oriented work procedures;
- Experience inspecting workplaces and investigating workplace incidents;
- Experience preparing reports and providing recommendations;
- Experience in trades or construction would be considered an asset; and
- Certifications and designations Occupational health and safety would be considered an asset.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders in a professional team environment;
- Ability to interpret and explain legislation and policies related to occupational health and safety;
- Sound analytical and problem solving skills;
- Proven self-starter with a desire to take initiative and complete tasks and projects on time;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; and
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.

**Conditions of Employment**
- Valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s Licence;
- Obtain and maintain RCMP vulnerable sector security clearance.
- Post-secondary program certificate(s), and occupational health and safety program training certificates to be provided prior to hire.

**Job Requirements**

Frequent travel throughout Yukon; work in adverse weather conditions; may be required to attend incidents.
