**Position Overview**

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide a range of supportive interventions for participant who exhibit self-regulation, social, emotional, physical, and/or medical needs. Your leadership and ability to coach others is supported by cultural and ability sensitivity, and related experience supporting people with disabilities.

In keeping with the goals of our corporate strategic plan and department business strategy, the Master Instructor -Inclusion Specialist - will be responsible for providing program support to participants in City Programs.

This position is responsible for providing 1:1 support to people with disabilities. This may include support in a 1 on 1 ratio, or supporting a program designed for people with disabilities. Support may include, but is not limited to; personal care including personal hygiene (i.e. changing), lifts and transfers, feeding, mobility support, communication barriers (i.e. sign language or a picture exchange communication system) supporting individuals that frequently wander away from the group, supporting individuals that require breaks from their program/group outside of the programming space. This position is responsible for communication with participants and families to help individuals achieve their goals. This position may be responsible for supporting with training initiatives for part time staff as well as coaching and mentoring Specialized Instructors and Program Leaders. This position is responsible for administrative responsibilities and the maintaining of internal documentation.

Times and days may vary based on the program and participant requirements but is based on a day camp schedule with approximate hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday during the months of July and August. This position reports to the Recreation Programmer. Travel within Burlington may be required of this position.

**Responsibilities**
- Conflict resolution and supporting individual participants with behavioural needs
- Managing Personal care requirements of participants in program which may include physical demands of hygiene, toileting, feeding, lifting, positioning, and transferring children and equipment.
- Supporting staff with conflict resolution practices and coaching through behaviour management principles
- Assisting with part time staff training, and training development and program evaluation
- Providing outstanding customer service
- Adhering to pre-established risk management practices
- Coaching and mentorship of other Inclusion staff
- Planning, and as required, submitting activity plans and/or developing resources for the program being delivered.
- Greeting participants and providing leadership and direction to program participants.
- Monitoring safety of program participants and following proper procedures in the event of an emergency.
- Providing participants, and other staff with modifications to the program which consider functional needs, and adapting teaching styles to meet participants needs.
- Completing required administrative work.
- Keeping training documents including any specialized training up to date and on file.

**Requirements**:
Successful applicants must hold or be willing to obtain HIGH FIVE® Principals of Healthy Child Development, Standard First Aid and CPR C (or higher), at their own cost prior to supporting individuals in program. Behaviour Management Systems Training or equivalent, and Lift and Transfers training is required and will be provided.

Staff will be required to attend training on evenings and weekends. All staff must complete mandatory training prior to the start of program. Training is offered through a combination of online and in-person learning.
