**Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Specialist**

**The Opportunity**

**Permanent Full Time - FTE 1.0 - 77.5 Biweekly Hours**

**Salary**: Commensurate with experience

Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), the OHS Specialist works closely with the Manager, OHS and site management to advance the OHS and Workers’ Compensations (WC) programs across the organization. In addition, the OHS Specialist develops OHS procedures and conducts training of employees in OHS processes.

**Responsibilities**
- Oversee and manages WCB programs
- Manage and co-ordinate internal OHS software systems and run reports and analyze data
- Participate in safety inspections and assist in the correction of deficiencies.
- Develops local safety awareness programs and initiatives.
- Manages sub - contractors' OHS pre-approval process.
- Attends OHS Committee meetings.
- Oversee OHS awards programs
- Works closely with, and supports the Department and Site managers in implementing OHS Programs.
- Oversees COR Program
- Maintains confidentiality of all information.
- Fosters a positive safety culture by encouraging the reporting of near misses, hazard identification, and incidents.
- Learns new skills and continues to develop as a safety leader.
- Is proactive in finding risk and addressing it.
- Supports front-line team members.

**Skills**
- Strong technical writing skills
- Skilled communicator with strong interpersonal skills at all levels of an organization.
- OHS auditing skills with COR experience
- Able to interpret OHS data to provide analysis of trends and solutions
- Strong coach and mentor who can provide support and guidance to people to encourage them to be their best, which includes being able to identify both positive behaviors and provide respectful constructive feedback on performance concerns.
- Able to develop OHS Procedures and train employees
- Identifies and resolves problems proactively and promptly.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Alberta WCB regulations.
- Ability to interpret and explain regulations, rules, and policies/procedures to others.
- Ability to work well with team members and influence without authority.

**Education/Experience**
- A recognized Diploma/Degree in OHS, Disability Management, or Health and Safety Administration.
- A current valid driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract to the Employer.
- Two to five years’ experience in safety management, OHS/disability management, implementing and monitoring a comprehensive OHS program.
- CRSP, CSP, or NCSO certification, proficient analytical and presentation skills, and experience working in the health care sector are considered strong assets.
