The Role:
Medcan is recruiting for a Genetic Counselling Assistant to join our innovative Genetics program. We are seeking a highly motivated and client focused individual with a great attitude who is able to work independently and as part of a team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a unique clinical setting focused on proactive genetic screening across a wide range of clinical areas, including cancer, cardiology and reproductive health. The role is accountable for providing clinical support to a team of experienced genetic counsellors, triaging clients and supporting operational workflows. This position is a full time one-year contract position, with possibility of extension.

The Accountabilities:
Clinical:

- Provide clinical support to Genetic Counsellor team
- Prepare clinical genetic counselling letters
- Prepare client pedigrees; request past pedigrees from Medical Records as needed
- Manage incoming genetics test reports via laboratory provider portals
- Assist with sending records to outside providers, as well as general clinical administrative support

Bookings:

- Triaging client inquiries by providing expert knowledge to individuals inquiring about the various genetics tests offered at Medcan
- Assist with booking appointments for genetics clients
- Schedule client follow-up visits for relevant tests (e.g. Proactive Genetic Screening, Pharmacogenomics, NIPT)
- Schedule client visits with internal medical geneticist

Operational:

- Provide general operational and client support to the Genetics business
- Coordinate specimen management and send out
- Data entering, gathering, and analysis
- Send out genetic reports to clients and/or external clinicians as requested

The Requirements:

- Clinical background in genetics required; Bachelor degree in Genetics or related field preferred
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented with superior organizational, time management and the ability to work independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and ability to learn new computer programs
- Demonstrated client service and collaborative teamwork skills

This is a full-time 1-year contract position that is scheduled primarily during business hours Monday through Friday, and will report to the Clinical Director, Genetic Counselling. The position will have a hybrid work set-up with opportunity to work from home and in the office at our 150 York St location in downtown Toronto.
