**About us**:
The Nova Scotia Women’s Association (NSNWA) is a provincial indigenous organization. It is incorporated (1972) under the Nova Scotia Societies Act that develops and delivers programs promoting equal opportunity for Indigenous women,

2SLGBTQQIA people and their families. We offer programs, services, and advocacy supports to Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people across the province, both on and off reserve.

The NSNWA is governed by a board of directors which consists of the presidents of 16 chapters across Nova Scotia. These are the 13 first nation communities, plus Halifax,

Sydney, and South Shore. They elect an Executive to meet monthly and act on their behalf between both the Board Meetings and the Annual General Assembly.

**Position Brief**:
**Position requirements**:

- Coordinate and facilitate group meetings and collect required data for research and assessment purposes.
- Write proposals for funding and follow up reporting as required.
- Create Strategic Plans from start to finish with short
- and long-term outcomes, where required create a workplan template.
- Create and implement a communication strategy across the province to each chapter and form a communication team.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Working knowledge of bylaws and implementation.
- Understanding of continuing education and implementing training programs.
- Host meetings with each chapter in your catchment to update on the work of the

NSNWA and compile information on issues affecting indigenous women and members of 2SLGBTQQIA.
- Complete reports and track progress on project milestones.
- Give presentations and updates to funders, board of directors and the executive.
- Other related duties as requested by the legal advisor or executive director.

- Ability to implement crisis intervention and when needed recommend mediation.
- Create a self care plan with clear indications on how and when to utilize.

- Be able to work diplomatically, respectfully, and empathically.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree/diploma in related field: Legal, social, arts plus 2 years related work experience or certification/training in related field with 5 years’ experience.
- Experience working with First Nation communities, organizations, and nonindigenous service providers and knowledge of services they provide both on and off reserve.
- Understanding historical and current issues of Mi’kmaq, women and 2SLGBTQQIA.
- Strong computer literacy skills, multimedia skills and other office equipment.
- Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation and ability to travel.
- Vehicle insured with $2 million third party liability.
- Able to work evenings and weekends when required, time flexibility.
- Ability to speak Mi’kmaq an asset but not required. Be willing to learn the language.
- Valid Criminal and Vulnerable Sector checks.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
