Additionally, there is an annual allowance for footwear and tools, although you will need to bring your mechanical tools.

Primary Accountabilities

Reporting to the Fleet Service Coordinator, the Mechanic II will diagnose equipment failures, perform repairs, rebuilds, and adjustments on various government mobile machinery used for road maintenance in all seasons. You will utilize specialized tools at a government facility and assist with field repairs when necessary. Other duties may include completing equipment repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance tasks.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, a Provincial Certificate of Qualification in the Truck and Transport Trade, and at least five years of mechanical experience. Upon hiring, completion of Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) training will be required during the probation period. A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with Air Brakes, a clean driving record, and preferably a Certificate of Qualification in Heavy Duty Equipment and Air Conditioning are necessary. Knowledge of computer diagnostics, mechanical updates, and safety regulations is a plus. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for collaborating with team members and clients.

Working Conditions

This role involves working in a mechanical repair setting with exposure to noise, smoke, gas fumes, and varying weather conditions during fieldwork. The position requires considerable standing, lifting, and movement.

Additional Information

There is an opportunity available in Sydney within Zone 1, covering the Sydney/Baddeck Fleet Services Area, including Zones 1, 2, and 3. This is a full-time, year-round position lasting 52 weeks.

Pay Grade: MECHANIC

Salary Range: $31.20 Hourly
