**Position title**:Emergency Support Services (ESS) Educator and Response Specialist
**Location**:Courtenay, BC or Remote with BC
**Employment Type**:Full Time/Part Time/Casual
**Closing Date**:Until position is filled
**Hourly Wages**:$32.50-$39.50 (Based on Qualifications)
**Job Summary**
**Responsibilities**:
- Community ESS training, planning and community-based program development.
- Engage and collaborate with emergency partners, assisting agencies and individuals.
- Use various traditional and classical information transfer options, as well as various media and technology platforms to meet clients/communities needs.
- Develop new documents based on current best practices as required
- Coordinate and facilitate ESS Response support activities and support emergency programs with Incident Command System principles.
- Develop and maintain emergency management documents.
- Coordinate communication strategies such as emergency preparedness and awareness
- Develop emergency management public/family promotional materials.
- Follow commitments through to completion, while being realistic to circumstances
- Use known education principles and stay up-to-date on new training methods and techniques.
- Be a collaborating team member, as well as follow direction from supervisors.
- Be held to a higher standard than the general population.
- Follow HEPR Code of Conduct.
- Place extreme value and commitment to honor and respect in all aspects of the position and personal life.
- Other duties as assigned related to emergency management.
**Operational Requirements**:
- Willing and able to travel including to remote locations by various modes of transportation (i.e.: small and large aircraft, all-terrain vehicles, boats, helicopters, etc.)
- Willing and able to work weekends and evenings.
- Willing and able to work overtime.
- Willing and able to work on-call/overtime during emergencies, with flexible hours to support community engagements.
- Willing and able to work remotely and onsite.
- Adherence to Work Safe and Health and Safety.
- Report directly to a supervisor.
- Maintain HEPR product knowledge through self-education and discussion with management.
- Participate in personnel performance appraisals to assess training needs.
- Support with equipment delivery and field training sessions.
- Use known education principles and stay up to date on new training methods and techniques.
- Assist with preparing and ordering educational aids and materials.
- Manage and maintain HEPR field equipment.
- Research and recommend new training methods, such as web-delivery tools.

**Physical Demands**
- Desk and computer work with long periods of manual dexterity activities (keyboard operations, filing, administration)
- Field work in variable weather conditions
- Carrying boxes, response equipment, backpacks etc.

**Qualifications**:
**Skills**
- Proven successful experience in Emergency Support Services (ESS)
- Proficient knowledge of BC Emergency Management System (BCEMS) and understanding of emergency management theory and practice in British Columbia.
- Experience in EOC operations, volunteer management, or training delivery.
- Familiarity with fire services, especially rural volunteer fire departments.
- The ability to understand and appreciate the values, beliefs, and behaviors of people from different cultures.
- Conflict resolution skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Experience in information technology; including proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Clearly and effectively communicate with clients/customers/community representatives.
- Ability to work as an energetic and dependable team player.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Quick and effective problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt and learn quickly.
- Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Basic mathematics and financial knowledge for working with budgets.
**Experience**
- 3 - 5 years’ work/volunteer experience in emergency management or emergency services.
- Working with or for First Nations Communities/Governments in Emergency Management.
- Multiple event deployments and activations of ESS Reception Centres and Group Lodging Facilities.
