As innovators in child health, we lead and partner to improve the health of children through the integration of healthcare, leading-edge research and education. When you join SickKids, you become part of our community. We share a commitment and determination to fulfill our vision of _Healthier Children. A Better World_.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to work alongside the world’s best in paediatric healthcare.

**Position Description**:
We are seeking a bioinformatician to assist in the development of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) tools and approaches related to genomics research projects.

**Job Details**

The Centre for Applied Genomics is a world-leading genomics facility at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute, and part of Canada's Genomics Enterprise. Our facilities provide genomics experimentation and analysis services to a wide variety of public and private research institutions.

We are working toward building sophisticated tools to assist in the interpretation of genomic variant data, gene networks and pathways. Many of these approaches will require ML and/or AI approaches, currently and in the immediate future. The skills required include the use of a large Unix cluster environment.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work as part of a team to create novel analytical tools;
- Answer biologically motivated questions by developing and executing methods to interpret genetic variant data;
- Experiment with published tools made available by the larger bioinformatics, ML and AI communities;
- Validate and assess the accuracy of your work by producing statistics/comparing results to publicly available benchmark datasets.

**Qualifications**:

- BSc or MSc in bioinformatics, computer science, or related discipline; additional background in genetics/molecular biology is a strong asset.
- Ability to work with and interpret large-scale genomics data sets
- Solid programming skills and experience
- Strong communication and writing skills; results of this research work will be published and communicated within our group and the larger scientific community.
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives

**Our Commitment to Diversity**:
The children and families we care for are from a variety of communities, and so are our employees. We welcome and encourage everyone to join our organization and be part of our team.

Thank you for your interest in joining SickKids. Only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted. In accordance with our Hospital policy, employment at SickKids is conditional upon the Hospital’s receipt of all necessary documentation.
