**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Follows all policies, directives, procedures, rules, regulations and Acts pertaining to the operation of St. Michael’s Manor Vegreville.
- Prepares ingredients for the production of Resident meals in accordance with approved standard recipes and production sheet. Produces specified quantities of meat, fish, soup, vegetables, and desserts for consumption as per menu schedules.
- Ensures that meal schedules are met. Tests for temperature and quality control, assuring accurate portioning and supply of food to the servery and dining room.
- Consults with the full-time Cook regarding meal preparation and modified diets as required.
- Arranges leftovers in storage, utilizes leftovers in production to avoid food waste.
- Procures foodstuffs from refrigerator, freezer, or other storage areas.
- Measures and mixes ingredients according to standardized recipes, using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment such as blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers to make sauces, soups, stews, casseroles and desserts. Bakes, roasts, broils and steams meats, fish, vegetables and other foods. Also prepares cold meats, sandwiches, griddle cakes, cooked cereals and beverages.
- Tastes food being cooked and adds ingredients or seasonings to improve flavour and texture. Tests food being cooked by properly tasting, smelling and piercing with a fork to determine that it is cooked.
- Carves portions of meat, fish and fowl for individual servings and prepares food for the serving units. Apportions servings according to menu combinations and / or special orders for Residents.
- Reports to the full-time Cook and Manager problems regarding necessary changes in the day’s menu. Reports possible emergency situations in order to minimize supply shortages, equipment breakdown or staff shortages.
- Keeps working areas and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Assists in pot washing - utensils and cleaning floors.
- Participates in the orientation program and staff development programs as required.
- Maintains good communication with Residents, Manager and other staff. Promotes good public relations with Residents and visitors within the building.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding Resident information and organizational operation.
- Ensures that equipment, procedures and activities are conducive to a safe environment for Residents, staff, volunteers and visitors.
- Reports unsafe or unusual conditions on Unusual Incident Report to the Manager, Supportive Living.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Manager, Supportive Living.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Experience cooking for large groups, e.g. weddings, catering, etc.
- Performance acceptable to the Employer in your current position.
**SPECIAL SKILLS**:
- A friendly disposition and good interpersonal and communication skills are preferred.
- Individual must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Must be willing to work closely with seniors, and/or physically/mentally challenged individuals and within the value system of St. Michael’s Health Group.
