**Role Summary**:
The Assistant Materials Manager leads the Materials, Project and Logistics side of the Department. They are responsible to do this by assisting, motivating, directing and coaching the Materials Supervisors, and other roles in the department with the advice and direction of the Department Leader. The Assistant Materials Manager is expected to initiate solutions to an array of situations, and maintain confidentiality. The Assistant Materials Manager will have excellent presentation, motivational and team building skills. This position requires a motivated self-starter who can balance multiple tasks in a fast paced manufacturing environment with a positive, cooperative attitude.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects the division's expectations, Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter.
- Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and divisional rules and regulations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
- Act on behalf of the Department Leader in their absence.
- Provides instruction, guidance and leadership to employees by assisting in solving day to day problems, utilizing the Magna Employee Charter while implementing the policies and procedures of the company.
- Plans and directs the utilization, maintenance and use of all machinery, equipment and manpower to achieve the most effective results.

- Ensure that short and long term planning is established for department in the areas of, but not limited to, Operating and capital budgets, manpower planning, CIP and cost reduction plans, Quality, Safety, Environmental and Employee satisfaction and motivation.
- Provide training and work instructions in the areas of, but not limited to, Health & Safety, TS 16949, ISO14001, job specific etc.
- Know and assist in enforcing the Materials Lift Truck Guidelines.
- Reinforce the Open Door process.
- Participate in recruiting of personnel by conducting interviews as required.
- Be responsible and accountable for meeting departmental objectives.
- Report and react to departmental Key Performance Indicators.
- Utilizes interactive management principles when implementing progressive discipline procedures in dealing with unsatisfactory employees.
- Monitoring of performance appraisals, performance feedback and progressive discipline.
- Ensure departmental compliance to all health and safety procedures / standards.
- Attend department safety meetings and safety walks throughout the year.
- Ensure that workplace inspections are conducted and unsafe conditions or acts are addressed.
- Ensure that all Accidents/Incident Investigations are completed and corrective actions are implemented.
- Review monthly accident, quality and productivity statistics in order to coach Area Leaders in incident reductions and improve procedures.
- Ensure that corrective measures including discipline where necessary are taken for unsafe conditions or acts.
- Educate support and promote corporate initiatives i.e. Employee’s Charter, EOS, Hotline, Fairness Committee, and the Employee Advocate.
- Able to perform all duties with only limited supervision or direction
- In conjunction with the Department Leader, assists in the planning of key programs and activities, i.e. manpower, layoffs, etc.
- Ensure information is communicated throughout the department in an efficient manner.
- Conduct all activities in a professional, confidential manner and positive attitude with emphasis on personal responsibility.
- Assists in the preparation of the yearly departmental budget.
- Perform other duties as designated.

**Key Qualifications/Requirements**:

- Completion of post-secondary education preferably in materials management.
- Five years related work experience in a Just in Time automotive environment.
