Beringia Community Planning Inc. is currently seeking to expand their team to include an Intermediate Community Planner with 7-10 years of experience in applied Indigenous Community Planning with an emphasis on Land Use Planning (LUP).

**Company Profile**

Beringia is hiring an intermediate-level Community Planner to support a broad range of community planning processes and projects (e.g., land use planning, comprehensive community planning, infrastructure planning, training/facilitation projects, health planning, etc.,).

**Primary duties include**:

- Managing complex and culturally sensitive community planning projects processes - particularly land use planning and comprehensive community planning
- Travel to remote communities to facilitate community engagement processes as needed
- Liaising with, and in some cases mentoring, local community planning staff
- Designing and facilitating community engagement processes
- Researching and analyzing planning history, trends, and results from community engagement
- Writing and designing innovative, accessible, and user-friendly communication tools, maps, and planning reports
- Supervising and managing junior staff, interns and sub-contractors
- Developing and delivering training on planning-related topics

**Experience and Qualifications**

**Essential**:

- Master’s degree in Community Planning or a related discipline plus 7-10 years’ planning experience working with First Nations or with related agencies
- Extensive practical experience with community-led planning/development
- Familiarity with the political, historical, and legal context of Indigenous community planning
- Strong cultural competency and sensitivity
- Familiarity with participatory planning theory and practice
- Strong project management skills
- Group facilitation experience and process leadership
- Excellent research, problem-solving, writing, and communication skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Motivated, independent, and driven
- Innovative, flexible, and adaptable
- Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities
- Proficient at using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and able to create effective visual reports and graphs

**Desirable**:

- Experience leading land use and comprehensive community planning processes
- Experience with land use planning-related mapping/GIS software (e.g. Esri ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro, Google Maps API, etc.) / ability to create new maps and modify existing maps
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
- Visually and graphically creative
- Certification or eligibility for certification with the Planning Institute of British Columbia/CIP
