**Responsibilities**:
**People**

Our people are our #1 asset here at JSI. In the role of QA Automation Manager, you will be responsible for:

- Recruiting, hiring, and building the Core Automation Team
- Coaching and mentoring software developers on your team
- Conducting regular 1-on-1s and performance assessments
- Promoting empathy and enabling your team members to be both happy and efficient

**Process**

You see process as a means to an end and not the goal itself and you are keen to simplify and reduce process wherever possible. This means:

- Becoming a champion of the JSI Agile process
- Leading and enabling the end-to-end software development lifecycle at JSI
- Identifying and leading projects to simplify/reduce process inefficiencies

**Planning**

You will work together with the Engineering Management team to identify the highest priority work for the Core Automation Team. This planning process also includes activities such as:

- Actively engage with Quality Assurance Managers to ensure your team is focused on the highest impact automation tests and tooling.
- Closely monitoring the progress of your team’s and work with the lead developers to remove any impediments for the team
- Partnering with the Development Managers to align on the most sensible way to focus our quality efforts across the various active work items and to align with our overall release plans
- Creating a long-term technical roadmap to advance the state of automation testing at JSI

Knowledge & Experience

Required Qualifications
- Experience coaching and mentoring software developers
- Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile software development methodologies
- An excellent understanding of modern quality assurance methodology and best practices.
- Understanding of design patterns and best practices
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to attain and maintain a top-secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Manager in Software Development and/or Quality Assurance
- 10+ years of experience in a relevant Software role (Developer and/or QA)
- Experience recruiting, hiring and building teams of software developers
- Experience building and/or integrating automation test frameworks
- Experience with Cloud a plus
- Experience with DevOps design patterns, processes, and best practices

Work Conditions
- This position is located in our Ottawa, Ontario office. Work is hybrid remote, with a requirement to be in the office once every two weeks.
